Pollution

Postby joo » Mon Jun 30, 2008 3:34 pm

I noticed that one of the processes that was running was called "pollution" - does anybody know what this is? Do machines or vehicles affect the environment in some way? Maybe affecting animals or people's health, or in the future weather or plants.

It's interesting that there was no public announcement of this feature, maybe it was initially intended to be discovered by characters in their own time, or just as an experiment.

Maybe as we pollute more, lag will increase ;)

It won't be hard rallying a hippy movement in Cantr if that's true.

I had a thought: pollution could affect the +/-20% variation in project results: if a place is heavily polluted, projects would tend to give more negative variations.

Farming projects, or all projects?

The original post was not a suggestion. It was a question about the game as it currently exists, and it hasn't been answered. What is pollution in Cantr? If that process is just routine maintenance, say so, and we can move on. If it's part of game play ... the Wiki doesn't have anything about it.

I was not suggesting that pollution would start affecting projects; I was merely speculating that that might already be the case. I don't find the idea of advancing technology in the game bearing a penalty very appealing. Cantr isn't ready to be that similar to the real world yet.

I don't exactly know, but if I had to guess I would say that it's daily tool rot as well as the tainting of certain raw materials when left on the ground.

I don't like the "affect projects" thing, but pollution could make things rot faster. The impurities in air would make corrosion of metals faster in a rate raging from x0.01 to x1.0.

How about, when there's pollution in the air people often feel faint and get the eating sickness?

I see a point in people feeling faint, but getting eating problems? I was thinking in air pollution, so we could have the sneezing sickness. But thinking again, what kind of pollution can we have? Cantr don't have a so big industrial development.

I now know that this process hasn't anything to do with object deterioration, as I spotted the process "deterioration" running - I'd say the silence from the game staff on this one means it something that's either being currently tested, or already implemented that they don't want to reveal. :D
