Yes, it does make sense for a coin to have a secondary inscription - it will make them seem more coin-like, instead of just being reduced to objects made from a certain type of metal with a certain name. It will even allow coins of the same type to have different secondary inscriptions (i.e. the date, or the current emperor or whatever)
