Visible Dragging

Postby cald dashew » Thu Jan 17, 2008 7:15 pm

I have a small idea.. When some1 try to drawl other character from one area to another and he is fail, all characters from this area should see that one man try to drawl another. Like in real world when two men are Hoard each other :)

I dont like noob pirates who try to drawl character from homeland to ship, fail and noone seem that..

Regards

You mean dragging. It only fails if people don't have the right key. Or do you mean that it would give an event when people are trying to drag but don't have enough strenght to get it done?

Yes dragging and yes when they dont have enough strenght :)

When character dont have enough strenght to drag another character from location, all characters in same area should see his trying...

Sorry for my bad english :?

I like visible drag attempts as well. At least to the person against whom the attempt is being made.

1.You see that man in his twenties try to drag You from Neverland to Ship Of The Fools

2.You leave Neverland and enter The Armory.

Yeah, it might be a bad thing for a character to notice when he/she is being dragged off to the abyss. Dragging sucks. It bogs everything down so much.

I support this suggestion. Legit drag attempts can be roleplayed, and pirates will have to plan things out in advance or risk being discovered. It would certainly make living in small, coastal communities a tiny bit safer, and it's realistic (in the sense that people should be able to tell when someone grabs them and yanks).

Funny thing, last time this was suggested everyone was thinking it would ruin things. But hey, if dragging was visible, maybe pirates would actually have to make plans. Like the Barons did. Catching newspawn thieves is the tricky part... but I guess it's only logical that a person would try to yank themselves free when they notice someone dragging them.

If you're referring to this thread, the conversation died shortly after you suggested it, with 3 people supporting it and 1 against it. It's funny how the brain often remembers things differently than what actually transpired.

I would also like to be visible a person attempting to drag herself.

slowness_incarnate (in the other topic) wrote:Even though the process of knowing who is dragging who..would be nice...I don't want it in the game. It gives that little hint of anonymity that makes it difficult to know who did it. Sort of like if you're betraying someone, this hides who was a helper

Well the last argument is now moot since people can see who helped in dragging after it happens.

I am not sure why this information would be important. Can you explain Sanchez...

I remember a long time ago that if you dragged yourself to a locked door that you did not have the key for, people could not drag you away somewhere else. That may have been a bug, but a pirate did it and stayed in the middle of the town during the attack unless I am mistaken.

I do strongly support the visiblity of dragging attempts... Of course you would notice if someone was trying to drag you.

I think that it's still so that the project stays even if you are dragging yourself to some place that you don't have a key for just as long as it's someone else who takes the project over the success limit. If you try to drag yourself or someone else to a place that you don't have a key for and succeed then it gives the error that the target is locked and your project is cancelled. But I think it's only cancelled for the person who brought it over the limit, not for earlier participants.

And anyway, starting to drag yourself to some place you do have a key for is a good precaution when dealing with strangers. I think it should be described as something like "X is looking tense." rather than "X starts dragging X to Y." Also when someone starts dragging someone somewhere and isn't successful, it should say "X grabs (or takes hold of) Y" but destination shouldn't be said until it's successful because you can see it when you assist anyway, and you can't really say for sure where it's going until you're close to the door.
