Some people can't load the site

Postby SekoETC » Sun Nov 11, 2007 5:37 pm

I got no idea how this might be possible but some people (Crosshair and wichita, don't know if there's others) can't load Cantr at all, not any of the pages, not the down screen (unless it comes from cache) not the forums, not even flizzle.net. Meanwhile some people like me are having no lag at all.

Could it be that the server is limiting the amount of connections to remove lag from those people who actually manage to get in? If that's so, people should be notified somehow. Or there should be a queueing system like some chatrooms (apparently) have.

There is no queuing system like that - Thats not what the issue is .. I'm also not experiencing great problems connecting - It is slow but the current server load , whilst high, is not saturated. Earlier today (about 5 hours ago ) server load was up at rather high levels for an hour but it did recover from that.

All I can think is that it's a network routing issue - Which explins whilst some people are getting through with no major issues and others can't at all

Right, I could not for the life of me get Cantr to work on any of the computers in the network I'm in. Tell the other people who are having troubles to use a proxy; I'm using proxytofacebook.com, and am having no problems :)

Many times I get the down screen even when the server is patently now down.
I find that repeated refreshes gets me in, but I'm sure that isn't helping the server problems much....

Site works alright (albeit laggy at times) for me.
Earlier today I got the down-screen a few times but that went away in a matter of minutes, and the minutes reset about half an hour to 45 minutes late for me, but apart from those things, I get in normally.
Those with issues, try it without the "www" in the url, maybe that helps (sometimes networks get dns-hiccups, and the url without the www.-part still works. Sometimes, it's just the internet-ghost-in-the-shell, and nothing works.)

You seem to be misunderstanding. Absolutely nothing shows up when you type in any cantr url, not even the down screen. It just gets stuck at the "Waiting for cantr.net..." in the status bar at the bottom of my browser. I tried it in IE and it's the same way.

Wasn't misunderstanding. I said maybe that helps because I've seen and heard of similar issues where it also showed in a statusbar that it was waiting for a server response.
For example, about 2 to 3 months ago giveawayoftheday.com had such an issue, where typing in the url to the site gave "waiting for www.giveawayoftheday.com" in the statusbar and nothing loaded, while typing in the url without the www in it loaded the site without any trouble.
The same happens every now and then to countless other websites, even hotmail and other big players.
The fact that a proxy works, does kinda hint that there's some dns issue, seemingly on the server-side, where it wasn't properly handling the requests so nothing was loading.

Whoops, shoulda read the second part of your post more closely to see that it wasn't tied with your first. But your suggestion didn't work :?

EDIT: And now it's magically working again, for me at least...

Ha Ha Ha.
I never get these problems. The white screen hits a couple of times a day, but it's gone in five minutes.
Gives me more time to play Call of Duty 4. :p

The no connecting thing is also happening to me and has been on ond off for months really. Same with the IRC server as well.
