Seals/Signatures

Postby The Industriallist » Sat Jan 24, 2004 4:09 am

This isn't a new point, but some kind of verification of notes is desperately needed. At the moment there is no way whatsoever of proving anything about the origin of a note or envelope. One of my characters created a template for fake Siom government announcements, and there is no way they could ge recognized.

Proposal: Make a seal. Each seal can be dynamically named like a person. Maybe the person who creates them could give them a description (text on the seal). A seal can be used on a note, and all the seals used on a note are listed by the title.
If it isn't too complicated a seal could require 10g of wax per use, and you could remove seals from a note.

This would allow complex institutions a chance. Right now, everything relies on trust, and there is always someone ready to betray that trust.

Well I'm not too particular but I thought that Sealed Envelopes provide for protection from this. Should the envelope be opened, the reciever shall know it was abused since it will no longer say that this envelope was sealed by John Doe.

As of when I tested it, that was very much false security. One of my characters was able to sign different envelopes with different names.

Even if this system were secure, seals would be more convenient for some things. Maybe not worth the trouble, though.

I thought it was the dynamic name you had for the sealer that worked. But I guess not then :C

A shout to the administration: Last time I brought this up I was told to check it out in character, but it seems to be such a fundamental part of the Cantr world that that is like not mentioning the resource cost of a stone hammer. Is it really a big secret?

nitefyre: You expected to se an envelope signed by "a man in his twenties"?

Thats what I expect, but I only usually get it from a character I know. So that name appears. I'm not exactly going to go up to some random person, not jot their name and ask for a sealed envelope.

for wax we would need bee's lol. hey ive seen a receipt from the trade shop in Olip, they have a little ship as a seal at the bottom. looks like the seal is wax :) so maybe a pic would be a cool temp seal for notes only adding them sealed envelopes... :?

We could also have the ability to forge a seal. Given some wax and a lot of time, seals could be forged. It would be similar to the way that keys can be copied.

I thought of that too, but alas, I dont know how to do it either. And isnt it so that rightclick should be disabled alltogether to prevent a pic from being stolen?
And there's always "Prtscn".

A screenie is a screenie. It's done on your computer so no one can stop it. There's even special programs for screenies, like screengrabber.
