Inscribing history on a weapon

Weapons hold a lot of sentimental value to Cantrians, but sometimes that history is lost when weapons are passed on or stolen. I think it would be cool if there were a way to mark a weapon. Maybe it would appear as a log or note, but called an inscription. Then as weapons are passed on, the new owner can add their history to it.
