Make a gathering project always take up a single slot?

Make additional people on the same gathering project not take up a resource slot.
This would promote cooperation and help some of the smaller locations to get by a little better (I mean, come on, 8 slots on 20 or so people?).

I agree - resource slots should really limit number of active projects - not number of people. If 4 people want to work together on one project then that's fine and should be promoted.

We'd probably need to implement some limits on participants

It actually would introduce a new form of "law enforcement /resource control" instead of dragging someone from a project or killing them you could free slots by finishing what they are working on.

And it would make it easier for newspawns to survive in areas that are normally very hostile to them, they could just help someone else with their resource project, and request a little something in return, without taking up a valuable slot.

*bump* If Chris liked it then why can't we have it? If we want to avoid over-usage of this function, resources could be given max workers per slot - for something that requires finesse like mining for gold, it might be just two while for something easier it could be five or more.

I like this idea as well, as it does promote more cooperation

I would also like to set the slots refering to the resources, I mean, setting how many slots for each separated resource has a place. This has been suggested many times before. It has no sense that if 9 people are collecting mushrooms in a forest, you are not able to gather some wood, whilst the mushroom gatherers are enjoying a neverendless supply of those magic mushrooms, and then you get angry (or hungry) and yarayarayara...
Tyche es una malparida. Espero que Ramnus y Pluto intervengan... o no :P
