RD issue: the well

Postby Surly » Sun Feb 04, 2007 1:36 am

Okay, pretty simple...

Is the well really a maxworker:1 machine? Because that's idiotic. Maxinloc:1 and maxworker:1 means a fixed output of water (400g per day) which severely limits fuel production, and further exacerbates the already expensive fuels.

Awaiting response before launching any rant...

Isn't it obvious? It is an RD plot to promote wars! After all if you can only have one in a location then the only thing you can do if take over other locations!

Damn the RD, Damn their eyes!

Seriously though, the maxworker make a little sense and there should be some limit on how many you can have but one is a little restrictive.

Not really my call here... but I'll mention there's also such thing as a water pump... not quite as efficient, but'll increase the town's potential to output water.

...

Okay... so the total output would be 700g for a very hefty investment. This is the most you can achieve with some very expensive machinery, no matter how many workers you have.

Of course, water skins are an alternative... but why restrict water so much? Maxinloc:1 is fine, I understand that... but no other machine has maxworker:1 and I don't see why somethin like this needs to be limited in such a crude fashion.

How many grams of water per day can you actually use? Nevermind... just looked at the exact numbers behind fuels... and the max per day possible in a city should be increased by a total of at least 100. I suggest either max workers on a pump be set to two, or the max per location to be two.

Id assume that if working at full efficency a location should be able to produce more water in one day than used for fuel. That is with both pump and well being used.

Also, if you need more water trade? There are usually at least 2 bordering locations, and if you have 3 places producing water and 1 making fuel, you should be fine.

Well this might be a serious thing- they might have actually done that on purpose!! Figured out the casualties, the loot, etcetera! Balanced it out! OMG!

As I said, I'll wait for Josh to respond before I blast this further... but seriously, all it would take would be maxworker:2 to double the output. Not to mention the fact it makes it more consistent with everything else ever added.

If you call that promoting wars, what do you call having a whole island where there is NO water? Well, I can't be sure there isn't water at all, since I've never been to each location in the island, but I've been playing for a year in that island, with chars traveling everywhere and never seen even a drop of water... It might be there, but I was really unlucky not to find it...
Well, returning to the my point, having absolutelly no water in this island is bound to make people go away sooner or later... and if desert islands are not found, someone is gonna suffer... (probably us, since we're damn weak...)

Oh, and just to make things clear, I am NOT complaining about this and I am NOT asking for water. I don't care if there's water in there or not, as long as it balances the game. If you think having a desert in the game is good, just leave it as it is. If you think there shouldn't exist lands without any water, then just make water in there!
Besides, it's gonna take a while until we need any water, so don't worry about us too much!

EDIT: Sorry about hi-jacking the thread, but I don't have much of a opinion on the well, since I don't know how to use it and don't need it at all...

Water is available in all locations . It doesn't appear as a resource but can be collected using the well, water pump or waterskins.

Maxworkers bumped to 2 on both the well and the pump. We set the gathering restrictive as we implemented those before we quite had the numbers worked out for fuel production. I felt it was better to leave it restrictive at first, so that way we would be able to "reward the players" rather than "punish the players" during adjustment time later on. ;)

And for the record, alcohol is supposed to be the most expensive fuel. :p Any group of characters that manages to invest in the infrastructure for petrol should be able to see ample reward for their hard work, right?

See, this is why I wanted to wait for you to post :P

Thanks, Josh. And moved to implemented suggestions as it... well... is.

If you want me to read your suggestions in the future, put them in Suggestions. I actually read that forum more routinely, and I can move them when implemented. ;)
