Oh so since the private sectoe rules the world, America does. That makes sense. Difference is, unlike our empire you cant go telling other countries what they can and cant' do. Guess why, because its not a real empire. Its just something metaphorical you have made up because your obviously offended by hearing that your country has not acheived as much compared to mine.

The point is that American companies DO tell other countries what to do - the Americans tell them what to do via the WTO, IMF and World Bank - the debts that the developing world have are so closely linked to conditions, which are drawn up by and imposed by US government - so they DO tell other countries what to do - and the power of US multinationals is such that it overpowers local companies, and local governments so that they ALSO tell other countries what to do...
and this power is nothing for any american to boast about - and neither is the british empire something for people from the UK, (like me...) to boast about

Whoever you vote for.
The government wins.
The government wins.

Thats one more for male *makes a note*
Back on topic....
I'm with HF, i would certainly refuse a knighthood and i agree that the empire was not something to be proud of... Oppressing half the world never is... i'd try and write that up a little better, but... ya know...
