Sorry, Rebma :(

RoD: After going to bed at 5:30 am, I got up at 7:30 to get some documents and payments done. I went to the Tax Office, and after waiting for more than an hour, watching to that lazy employee moving his butt as if he had a heavy stone on each shoe, he told me that that office wasn't the right place to do the payment. "It is in another town" "Okay, can you tell me where the hell it is?" "This address" "At what time do they close?" "I don't know" "Well, do you have their phone number, so I can call them" "No, I don't"

WTF??? They are the -same- institution! Stop sending me from one town to another, aimlessly. This is the damn third town you told me wrong! Fuel isn't cheap, do you know, guys? F***, this is for -giving- you money!

/end rant

(Sorry, I'm really pissed off today)

Dont you just love people that actually have a job, aren't starving on the streets, and cant be bothered to at least spend five minutes of their work time to keep your day from being hell? Im sure that is not the first time that guy has been asked that question either. I met a man like this once as an airport security guard. He made a comment about the football shirt I was wearing that was really rude for again, a man at work. I replied in kind (of course being just as kind to him) he actually took the stance of you know I dont have to let you through here....No you dont but if you want to go that route I see at least ten people here that would love to be witnesses to your rudeness and you lose you job...think you wife would leave you if you were broke? *you hear ten people laughing their asses off*

That's government (in)efficiency for you...

I don't have any deep thoughts or troubling rants today. My Wed morning meeting was canceled (Hallelujah! No walking across campus in the freezing cold!) and I have an interesting database connectivity issue to investigate. It's been a low stress day so far....maybe I should be worried!

Ooh.. can I tell my story of bureaucratic silliness? (admittedly, it's not "of the day", since this happened 10 years ago, but...) When my fourth son was born, we went to get him a Social Security card (non-US people, -- ya can google it :-)) So, I took the baby, his older brothers (we were homeschooling at the time) and his birth certificate to the SSA office. The bureaucrat there avers that the birth certificate is not enough, he needs a second form of ID to show that he is really him, such as ... a driver's license, armed forces discharge, passport, marriage license (umm.. my 1 week old doesn't really have any of those....), or.. health insurance card. "But," I say, "the kid himself is here. Here's proof he is born! His brothers will all vouch for who he is. I didn't just kidnap some kid off the street. Here's MY driver's license and my name on the birth certificate."

"Sorry, not good enough. Come back with his health insurance card" (which I'm lucky to have, since the US is the only developed nation with no national health insurance system.)

So, I drag the four boys home, find his card, and come back, and hand it over saying, "You know how I obtained this card? I called my insurance company, and said, "Hey, I have a new kid". THEY took my word for it. I could have insured my goldfish! They don't care, as long as I pay the premiums. So, you won't take MY word for it that this is my kid, but you are willing to take the word of someone who took my word??? Yeah, that makes a boatload of sense! :x "

The system must be better now, or else it's just your state, but here, with both my kids, everything just kind of "worked." Filed the paperwork from the hospital and they put it into the mail (I'm assuming with a birth certificate), got the cards a few weeks later. My insurer required the birth certificate too ;)

Yes, that would have worked IF the birth center (we only had our oldest in a hospital) had actually filed the SSA paperwork. But since the kid didn't have a name until the bris at age 8 days, it wasn't feasible (or maybe the the birth center just hadn't done the right thing. Don't remember. All I know is I had to go down there myself. I believe he was the only one I had to do that for, but I don't remember)

We learned during my son's circumcision that he had probably inherited his mother's insensitivity to Novocaine. Not the best circumstance to figure such things out.

I had a high probability of being born with mental handicaps and learning disabilities.
I've a somewhat decent chance of developing several auto-immune diseases due to heredity, including psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, thyroid disease, etcetera.
Is it weird that my vision is worse than my mom's while my dad had perfect vision up until a year or two ago?
I've a recently-developed (within the last few years) allergy to inorganic cleaning chemicals.
I can move my smallest toe on each foot without moving the other toes.
I've no idea what that had to do with anything we were discussing.
I have somewhat of a photographic memory. a.k.a. I remember all the little details that don't really matter. Like, I remember the elevator button on the port, forward side of our cruise ship on the ninth floor was missing an "up" button. Like, the button itself was there, but the little plastic thing with the triangle on it was gone. And the elevator set on the starboard forward side had two "up" buttons (the plastic thing on the down button had been turned upside down after I knocked it down and didn't have time to replace it right-side up).

Is any of this weird or surprising to anybody?

Speaking for the 50 other people who just tried to move their little toe without moving any of the others, I can say, yes its weird. Its the same as that silly email that was going around that had people trying to lick their elbows. My ROTD is that I fell for it.

Its good to see you healthy snickie.

Be well

Novocaine! Piffle! Then you ain't doing it right....

Anyway, TotD pt II (just read it tomorrow, and you can claim I only posted one a day): At the latest of the round of meetings to decide what to do about my kids' school closing (well, this was actually a plan to try to save the school), the presenter (a doctor) said, "and under this plan, we won't need as many teachers. For example, we'll need less English teachers..." My wife turns to me and whispers, "Actually, we apparently need more English teachers, because he should have said 'fewer', not 'less'", which set me into a paroxysm of giggles (even though I'm notoriously guilty of that misuse myself).

Yeah, I was one of those 50 others...it didn't work. I never fell for the elbow thing because I saw someone try that on TV.

Have you ever tried this one?

Begin rotating your wrist in one direction, then try to rotate your ankle in the opposite direction (yes, at the same time!) Can you do it?
