I'll quote everything I bothered to read in your post... :)

Wolf wrote:Maybe Keegan meant, once the hole is plugged and it's secure, whether it would then be possible to undertake such a project on the side of having a runnable game, so after the mentioned timeframe there'd be a swap from the secured+working code to the new, secured+working+"unified" code...

Enhancing Cantr II will always be in the long time perspective. And luckily for us, PHP-code can be replaced in run-time, small chunks at a time (mostly), so there won't really be a need for keeping a separate development game world.

Future versions of Cantr may be coded in another programming language altogether, and then of course it's a different matter.

Code: Select all

Like what? In five years or so, I may actually understand programming, so maybe I should pick the right language to learn.
Java = 3D Cantr?

PS Wolf, I read your post, and I laughed. I've thought of Linux, but I like my Win 7. It's more easily compatible.

Noone knows what languages are popular in five years. And the thing is, once you get aquanted and get some experience with your first programming language, it isn't that hard to pick up the next. :)

True true. I guess I'll just learn what my college wants me to, though I'm a fan of PHP just because of Cantr.

When cantr is down, I amuse myself with imagining which character would best be suited as the "judge and jury" for the hacker. And, if he/she is brought to stand before "Justice", what would be the best punishment? So far, the most gratifying punishment daydream I have would be isolating the culprit in a region without electricity for long enough to cut firewood for a Canadian winter. Any thoughts on the best charry to enact the punishment?

Tarot cards revealing, a solitary feeling
Terminal eyes, but I think it's alright

The Rau would simply kill the hacker. Or at least, from what I gather of her, that's what she'd do.
I haven't heard nearly as much about Mojo Nocenti.
This is difficult.

Snick and my Fu Island char (as well as her fiancee, I'd bet) would love to be on the jury.

I think Voir Dire would be rough for anyone on this board. Though with some coaching, we might be able to sneak you on without challenge. Of course, that would be illegal so I only mention these things in jest. Especially since law enforcement is allegedly on the case now.

Could we get the internet police to catch the hacker?

When Cantr is down...I have to contend with the evil monkey in my closet (who also plays Cantr).

There's nothing to think about here. Just give the hacker to Rau, but first make sure she's well bored 8)

The hacker should have to live Cantr-style, starting naked and with no possessions in a place with no food resources. He or she would have to kill animals with a fist, make a cooking machine, gather wood, etc., just to eat. And so on. No traveling. :D

Last night, I was really bored, so I went on to this Facebook application called BuddyPoke, where you can basically create cartoon images of people, and made images of four of my Cantr chars, as well as one of my Fu Island char's fiancée with my second Facebook account, and had fun making images with those two chars.

I can't post them, because it'd give away who I play. :P

Honestly... the stuff they try to charge money for out there, it makes the Dutch tax system look like kindergarten lol...

But I'll be honest, I didn't feel like Jesus very long.
After ranting and chewing out some of those vultures, I realized that... hey... maybe I could find a niche there too, and make some virtual income...
Virtual, because I wouldn't want to leech actual money off of other people who could use it much better on real-life things.
See, I'm really a good guy, you can vote for me as your next president, or prime minister, or religious leader, or... meh, just vote for me, because at some point I'll get there anyhow and then I'll remember all those who *didn't* vote for me... mheh... mheheheh... mheheh...

I don't manage to do to bad selling stuff on SL and at fairly cheap prices. In 1 week I earned 8k. Then I paid my tiers which are 3150k. Two days later I was back to 8k again, already. I've become self sufficient there, however LindenLabs has me so angry right now that I can't see straight. I have thousands of items on their SLX and their new move to the new marketplace has screwed so much of my stuff up it isn't funny. It's not something that has just an easy fix. I have to go back through all of the items I have listed and check them to make sure that they didn't get knocked off the list because my permissions for "other" weren't listed as they had specified in their last minute migration of items to the new website. What ones didn't get moved right, I have to redo their listings and it's going to take me months just to get that straightened out--(On the upside I have time to get that done while Cantr is down)--In the meantime, football season is my peak season.......And I had been working on a certain design that requires different versions but now that I have to fix crap that's messed up, Im not going to meet my own deadline for getting that design done. I almost want to say to hell with it and just give it all up. / end rant
I hate people.
