Re: What do Cantrians do in the real world?
I'm a 24 year old university student majoring in computer science. I work in game development.
On my spare time, I work at a second job and play Cantr, and a little FTO, as well as other video games. I also work on a personal game project when I find the time. I am a die hard hockey fan, so that takes up a lot of my time right now as well.

I'm a high school math teacher. Got my bachelor's degree in mathematics in two years and am currently working on my graduate degree in education, with only four classes to go. Woop! Even though I'm only 23, I've been teaching for two years now and I love it!

*waves over to reve* hello neighbour!
@jos + joo:
uhm, i have to admit i don't actually PLAY go at the moment - usually i'm so busy with my apprenticeship that i have almost no energy left for playing go. but i like spending my time with the people at the go club, so sometimes i hang around there chatting or i meet some of them for geocaching. *gg*

hehe go, I played some in college, but I didn't really want to dedicate the time needed to become decent at it so I'd get my butt whooped by pretty much anyone who plays online.

I don't play very often online, but I am trying to convert a friend of mine. I have a small 15×15 board and we play at college when we can, after or between classes. I value having the ability to leave the boring, oppressive universe we exist in, and enter the universe of Igo, in such environments.

Was it you people who came up with the expression "I really have to go..."?

There is no rule that says I can't post as much I want. I asked my lawyer.

He's on to us... I guess it's time to spill the beans, there's an international go community that plays go long distance via the sewer system. It's kind of like playing chess by mail, except you flush the pieces down the toilet with a little note attached to it saying where you want it placed on the board.

That's what I've always suspected.

I'm not surprised that Go appeals to players of Cantr, or vice versa. It's... similar in a sense.

You mean that its very slow?
Or, that nobody I know IRL plays it. Because they just don't like games like that.
Suck...
(I'm talking about both)

Go isn't inherently slow because it's usually played in real-time. It can become slow when players are taking a long time to ponder about a certain move, but that doesn't happen constantly.

And you can add a timer like in chess and make it speed go.

Most everyone here is way smarter than me! I'm just a full time single dad, laid off construction worker. This topic saddens me. I could've been somebody! No not really. Never been motivated to do much with myself. So why not pass that down to the next generation. Whoopie!

Re: What do Cantrians do in the real world?
I was really surprised yesterday when I went with a friend to a tea shop/caffeteria and found out few guys playing Go there. I talked to them for a while and there is a local Go club in my city too. They even meet regularly every tuesday!
