Heh, I've finally realised how you people manage to have avatars of a greater size than 80x80.

Providing an off-site link to an image allows you to have an avatar of... apparently any size.

If an avatar stretches the layout of the site then it's too big. Even my current avatar is a couple of pixels too wide unless I remembered to resize it. But 240x240 is definitely too big.

In that case, 150 should be the max (based on a 3 pixel padding and a page where the only avatar is less than 80 pixels wide).

edit: That must be wrong, as it shrinks to 144.

I remember working this out way back, and requested that 150x150 be the max people use (as, even though that's a little too wide, it's a common size for large avatars on the net, and doesn't distort too much), as, at that time, there were quite a lot of people using layout-distorting avatars.

I've retired the shepherd avatar. I thought of putting up a picture of myself, but decided not to. If anyone can think of anything appropriate to my real or perceived personality, let me know. Suggest it before you draw it though, I wouldn't want you to waste your time in case I don't like it.

Maybe I can use some graphics relevant to my dead characters...

Someone can have my noob one if they want. I was only using it as a spacefiller while I was drawing my current one but it did take a while to make (I actually lost my only copy of the old one when I was testing the different sizes).

That's definately one of my favs, but I'm not sure if it would be big enough. I can try it though. - Just shrunk it to 150, but it induces eye-strain.

I was thinking of something along these lines. It has compacted to let everything fit in at an acceptable size, and could possibly even be shrunk to 80x80 with a bit of tweaking.
