Well it official, the Firefly Movie has been given the green light by Universal and hiring of cast and crew has begun. Most of the original Firefly cast said they will definitely return to their roles no matter what. Plus, rumor had it that Joss Whedon has been in Hollywood for the past four months secretly running the (re)construction of the Firefly set on a Universal Studio sound stage which has been confirmed by the "Hollywood Reporter". The movie is still in the final stages of pre production (hiring of cast and crew, getting approval from Universal to begin production) but usually a movie that enters the hiring stage of cast and crew usually means that the studio has pretty much put their weight behind it and that the movie will be made. If the studio didn't want it then the movie pre production would not have gone as far as the script writing. There is still always that chance that the movie will get scrapped for whatever reason. There are still legal problems with Firefly as FOX still owns a good portion of the Firefly rights and will probably want a cut in the movie sales and might try to interfere with the movie. But usually once a movie gets into the production phase, which the "Hollywood Reporter" and other websites are reporting will being by the beginning or mid February, it doesn't get scrapped as so much money has already been put into it that it is well worth the risk to put it out.

So I just wanted to share the promising news with you guys. :D

ZOE: Preacher, don't the Bible have some pretty specific things to say about killing?
BOOK: Quite specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps.

WASH: I don't want you to spare me, Mal. If you think you know what's happening, then you tell me. You wouldn't spare Zoe if she were in this situation with you, would you? You would be planning, and plotting and... possibly scheming. So whatever Zoe would do in this instance is what I wanna do. Do you know why? No matter how ugly it gets, you two always come back with the stories. So... I'm Zoe. Now, what do I do?
MAL: Probably not talk quite so much.

WASH: Little River just gets more colorful by the moment. What'll she do next?
ZOE: Either blow us all up or rub soup in our hair. It's a toss-up.
WASH: I hope she does the soup thing. It's always a hoot, and we don't all die from it.

WASH: Psychic, though? That sounds like something out of science fiction.
ZOE: We live in a space ship, dear.
WASH: So?

BOOK
What are we up to, sweetheart?

RIVER
Fixing your Bible.

BOOK
I, um, what?

RIVER
Bible's broken. Contradictions, false
logistics - doesn't make sense.

She's marked up the bible, with crossed-out passages

BOOK
No, no. You - you can't...

RIVER
So we'll integrate non-progressional evolution
theory with God's creation of Eden. 11 inherent
metaphoric parallels already there. Eleven.
Important number. Prime number. One goes into
the house of 11 11 times, but always comes out
one. Noah's ark is a problem.

BOOK
Really?

RIVER
We'll have to call it "early quantum state
phenomenon." Only way to fit 5000 species
of mammal on the same boat.
(rips out page)

BOOK
Give me that. River, you don't...fix the Bible.

RIVER
It's broken. Doesn't make sense.

BOOK
It's not about making sense. It's about believing
in something and letting that belief be real enough
to change your life. It's about faith. You don't
fix faith, River. It fixes you.
(tries to take Bible pages from
River; fails)
You hang on to those, now.

I have a mpeg clip of this scene on my computer. If someone wants me to send it to them via e-mail as an attachment to sort of get a feel of what Firefly is like then just send me a PM with your e-mail and I will send it your way.

Would this interest you, David?

You could download the episodes from here http://versaphile.com/download/firefly.html.

I would recommend that you download the originally aired Serenity Part 1 and Part 2. I also think the episode Out of Gas is a pretty good stand alone without ruining too much of the rest of the show and getting you confused because everything is out of order. The best way to watch Firefly is to is to watch it in the attended order that they were meant to watch.

In order to watch AVI movies, you will need to download RealPlayer. I believe it is free and there is a link on the site to a download.

And if you really like the episodes you download then I highly suggest that you buy the series on DVD for every DVD sold makes it even more concrete that a Firefly Movie will be made.

For your sake, yes, as long as you buy one as soon as you have money. You could always ask for it as a gift too.
