I think some research needs to be done on this - I can't as most games sites are blocked for me here at work.

Most games have an active player count on the front page...
We should compare Cantr with similar games - would someone be able to check games that appear on the same sites as Cantr, at similar rankings?

If the other games get lots more than cantr, then we should remove it.

But I doubt it - PRUT - some commercial MORPGs don't manage 500-1000 active players, and only a very very small few free online games manage that amount.

I like the number of active characters idea.

Oh. Yesterday, it was on the front-page, too. It seems to have been taken off there, though. Can't see it there, now. :?

I heard some time ago, that they have 1.000.000 users, how many do you suppose can be online at the same time?

Benchmark:
http://board.ogame.pl/index.php?sid=d1d ... 83d5face85
I don't know how many people were online in game - I suppose more that on forum, but look an forum stats:

• 1.086 users (173 hidden)
• 407 guests.
• Rekord: 3.427 users on 24.05.2006 at 22:24.
• users total: 168.319
• average number of posts per day: 12.349,40

This is only polish zone there.
Game is also free and for many language zones

These are taken from the top 5 of the Ultimate Games Directory ( http://games.plit.dk/ )

http://www.raginguniverse.net/en/
Total: 241
Current: 18

We seem to have around nearly 100 users on at peak times, which is similar or better than these examples, and we also have 1894 players which is better than any of these examples.

From http://www.oz-games200.com/
1. Imperia Online
Online - 615

3.Lagoon B
437 players are online.

5. Eternal Duel
Players Online: 108
Players in Chat: 27

The first two are VERY popular games - So there's no reason that Cantr would be near them.
But eternal duel is also a very popular game - and only has a few more than Cantr - which is rated 59(!) on that list

so close comparisons:
57. http://space.coldfirestudios.com/
0 users online

53. http://www.oz-games200.com/out.php?gameid=70
50 Users Online

Cantr beats those near it by far...

------------------------------
http://www.rpggateway.com/Internet_Play ... ical_MUDs/

http://illarion.org/general/us_news.php
20 players are online

http://cmrpg.net/
Online: 90

Cantr has a good number of players and online players for a game of its type and level - not near the big ones - but they have a braoder appeal. Cantr does well when compared to similarly rated games, and similar types of game.

I say we keep it - having some online players listed seems better to me than to have none - it shows that there is at least some constant activity.

About OGame, well, it sure is a popular game, but IMO, it has no chance in a face to face with Cantr!
I've played it not too long ago and it was hell boring!
But it has an advantage. It is easy to play and understand.
Cantr can't be neither of these, but it allows for role-play, which OGame doesn't.
What I mean from all this is that Ogame and Cantr are completely diferent games, with completely diferent dinamics, and most of all, with a completely diferent kind of players, so there's no point in comparing them!
Even though I would love the idea of seeing Cantr beating OGame in the number of active players!

I am sorry, but there was an error in this thingy.

It counted players which last login time was higher that time before 15 minutes. So if current time was 10:00, it counted all players with login time bigger than 9:45. Seems fine? But it isn't, cause it also counted those who were active in previous day after 9:45.

So now numbers went down... sorry :(
