If every post in this thread were used to suggest a new animal, I think we'd hit everything in the animal kingdom.

Maybe swarms of insects could be animals?

Armadillos! :D Oh, and anteaters. And marsupials.
I don't think you can wipe out an insect population by slapping them all to death. Some places, like swamps and forests and jungles, could have mosquitos that can sting people several times a day, but the "attack" is only visible to the person targeted. Sometimes they could carry desease. But mostly you'd have only "2973-2 You get attacked by a mosquito and lose 0 strenght. Your shield was ineffective towards the blow". "2973-3 You have a new itchy bump in your skin."

I didn't mean a kind of animal you can kill...but disease sounds like an interesting side effect. It would be a good way to keep people away from some resources. Go there and risk malaria, or whatever.

Swarms of insects, eh? Yeah, have them go and ruin crops, spread disease, and make people make morale stories or something.

Seriously now, what do you think of massive swarms of insects ruining your farms?

I've had this discussion on insects and other small creatures before with Jos. I don't really see the point in implementing swarms of creatures that would have 5 or less health, and do minescule damage and also have minescule resources. Essentially, unless you're in a desert or barren wasteland, assume there are basic insects and spiders about, not really helping or harming anything. Thats how I think it'll be until we have code to support more "event-based" ideas like famines and plagues.

Yes, I'm sure the server would have an easier time storing one swarm in the database, rather than millions of bugs.

Insects could be made into a resource rather than an animal... cause lets be honest, who hunts ants with a sabre?

1444: You skillfully kill an ant with a crossbow

1444: You say: "alright yeah!!!"

1444: You eat 1 grams of your ant.

1444: you are hungry.

Now collecting ants in larger ammounts and then cooking them (i've tried fried ants, they are finger lickin good) along with Crickets, Wapane Worms (those lil white grubs you get in the Congo) Woodlice, (mmm ever had a bag of salted woodlouse?)

I like the concept of dogs, cats and ecspecially chickens.

On a side note, I can't wait for animal domestication! Start programming it, now or feel my non-existant wrath!

Uhh...sorry bout that...
