I would not normally ask for a lock but this thread goes beyond offensive.....

Some of the ignorance here is frightening!

Go away from you terminal, live a little, then come back when you know something!

It doesn't need to be locked

But I would very much like Nalaris and Coramon to apologise and admit they are wrong.

Either that, or to be prepared to fully explain and defend (if possible) their opinions.

At the moment their posts read as unthoughtful, hurtful and rude throw-away comments.

Sexuality is so individual, as someone esle her has said, I don't see how this topic can having any meaning and bring anything positive to the forum..

All I have learned thus far is that there are people here who hold ill informed and uncomfortable views

Image

and that makes this place feel a tiny bit less safe than it was before!

(editted to allow me to express justifiable anger through a little pic)

Should we not accept that different people have different opinions? And those that feel hurt - take comfort in that a large majority of people out here think quite differently from those few that say these strange things here ...

I'm more than happy to accept their opinions, they're the opinions, as scarey as it is, of the majority, and I take a lot of comfort in seeing that it's very much a minority opinion on the forums.

But I don't think that comments like that can really be just dropped like that without people asking for some kind of explanation.

If someone was to drop into another conversation to say that all Americans are fat and stupid (another popular view) I can't imagine it would slide without people asking for that person to further justify that opinion, or to retract it?

I should probably make it clear that my requests for an apology/explanation weren't meant to be from my position on the CD, but were personal requests.

People, you're too soft. I hang out at the RPGnet forums occasionally. If that comment about "anyone sane is straight" had been said there, that person would have been flamed so hard his mother would have felt it. ;) And rightfully so. (Granted, that forum has a large contingent of openly gay people. But the straights would join in.)

Nalaris has the right to hold that opinion. And we have the right to be angry at him for it.

You call that a beard?

We would actually probably agree with them on that point.

Certainly! I was purely replying to the suggestion of locking the thread ... I don't think it calls for moderating, that's all I meant.

Oh, you meant that. Righty then, agreed, as long as it doesn't turn into a flamewar.

I don't want "gay cooties" on my flamethrower.

Edit: *loses his nerve* Before anyone gets mad, I'm just joking.

By th way, Coramon was just curious about the number of gay vs straight people. Hell, not everyone knows all these different designations or have even dreamed that they exist. Why can't someone ask a simple question without getting the crap beat out of them. I don't think most straight people are that informed about such matters. If I can speak for some straight people, I don't give this issue much thought so I would likely simplify the question myself.
