I agree, and think it' a good suggestion, and also understand the PD's ruling to save themselves many headaches and remain fair across the board.
However, even if it takes 20 real-life days, similar to starving a character, it would be nice for in-character story. Much of the rule-base deals with keeping things in-game and in-character. For a character who is healthy and peaceful and/or "very old" in terms of game age, somehow locking them in a room, or falling asleep for a year before they actually die off of what seems a rather un-peaceful manner as starving or violent animal/weapon wounds is almost against being in-character.
That's the suggestion I'd love to see.
Not sure how it would be implimented, but even "heart attack" would still work as a final cause when you examine the corpse. If your other characters are active it's not as easy as simply never checking the character again until they go idle, since your account is active (to my knowledge). Plus, in my case, it's tough to starve when the others keep feeding you, regardless of how long I sleep.
