Yes. Swimming to an abandoned dinghy or darter would be a way to finally retrieve them. And since one would be slowly swimming, it wouldn't be such an effective attack strategy that it would really destroy the game advantage of having an undockable ship. Keep in mind that a swimming character should move slower than a character on a raft. :) Swimming the channel from Longinazy to Shortinazy should likely be an achievement.

If the pirates fall asleep for a day or two while floating, sure, some brave pirate hunters could board their darter. And take it back.

But if you undock in a dinghy (or any other vessel) right after the darter has undocked, then jump to the water, this will bring you so close to the darter that you can dock instantaneously. You could hit the people in the darter, undock and dock back to the ship where you left from, all this instantaneously, even if both vessels were moving.

That seems fair to me.

It is unlikely that it happens (Cantr is a slow paced game), and it is really unprobable that it happens two consecutive days: One pirate in the darter will have advantage for scaping against two or three pirates in the other ship and the dinghy because the need of synchronism. And if there is only one active character in the ship and dinghy combo, it is impossible that the darter's pirate gets injuried two times.
