One of my characters is kind of going through this right now.
She actually doesn't care, she just needs an outlet for her sexual energy and that outlet is currently asleep.

Is talking once a day really so bad? As long as the character isn't a town leader or someone with a bunch of responsibilities. I only manage that much with a couple of mine on work days, but I'd be really happy if I could get that level of consistency from some of the other chars around me.

My characters talk when someone requires something from them and/or when I've time to start a conversation with them. Sometimes that's once a day, sometimes much more, sometimes a little less. I don't think a hard and fast rule for how often person in X position should wake up would be useful, but the sleepiest person in town probably shouldn't be holding the keys.

That said my own rule for myself is roughly along the lines of 'if everyone or nearly everyone else in town is waking every day, my character there should be too'.

Still, there are characters out there who wake only once every couple of years, sometimes without speaking or emoting, whose presences my characters still value.

Social isolation in Cantr.

Out of my characters,
- has no friends left except maybe one back home, and with my luck he's probably dead by now
- interacts with a lot of people but the only one who's supposed to be really close to her has been asleep for years just sleepworking on projects and not saying a word
- recently lost her last friend and is in the middle of a region where nobody speaks English. Only went there with the off chance of finding rare things to sell forward, instead lost both of her friends and most harbors have been locked so they couldn't even get ashore
- sails with his gf who's played by someone in a completely different timezone from mine, so they interact once a day
- stuck with a new crewmember who acts like a martyr. OK I get it you don't like sailing with us, guess how great that makes me feel?
- dating someone who can't leave town due to crippling anxiety that everybody is going to die and the town will get looted if they leave. Imagine how much rp fuel it would give if the town actually got looted? Although given the inactivity of the region, it's unlikely to happen.
- one awkward relationship
- still mourning the loss of his wife. Almost completely lost emotionally
- has one person in the world that matters. That's enough. One of the few characters that doesn't give me stress.
- cares on some level about several people but I don't terribly feel like playing this character. He's easiest to play when he's hurt and/or scared and I don't know how to play him if he's happy
- cares about four people, two of them are out of town
- doesn't form emotional connections
- used to care about a couple of people, one of them is now dead. Recently unable to connect with anybody
- just came home and there's nothing to talk about. There hasn't been an active newspawn in decades
- at least a year's travel away from home. Thinking pessimistically, all the tools he left behind have probably expired by now

- Doesn't really have any friends so to speak but does hang around a lot of people with whom she occasionally trades waster blows
- Left her friends long ago to go exploring. I'm pretty sure they're all dead now.
- Only has two friends and has dedicated his life to feeding them and making sure they don't die.
- Has one friend and has dedicated her entire existence to exploring with her.
- Her friends have all died or left. She tries not to bother too much because of that.
- She doesn't really have friends, just people she likes to bother. And she likes it that way because then there are no hard feelings most of the time. Friends mean drama and drama ruins her fun.
- Has never had a friend in her life, and prefers it that way. She prefers to keep it professional.
- Is somewhat psychopathic. Or something.

It seems my characters all have the same trouble making friends as I have. Oops.

cross-continent flirting

Somebody really needs to set up some kind of 'loveline' or 'personal ads' channel, it would be very popular I'm sure and save the rest of us a lot of scrolling.

The radio logs would be much shorter without people whining about flirting and using the F word on a channel that characters played by minors could well be listening.

I saw about 20 paragraphs of flirting, giggling, and 'am I pretty?' before I found an excuse to move my characters outside, vs about 2 sentences and 1 paragraph of people being annoyed. And then of course another large paragraph of a person being annoyed at the people being annoyed.

Still not anywhere near as obnoxious as the slave chat from before, I just find it puzzling/annoying that people never see any issue whatsoever posting paragraphs and paragraphs of this kind of inanity...it would be equally annoying if it were in the middle of the town square, but then at least I'd only have one character that had to put up with it.

And as usual just annoyed in a general sense about radios. From a game mechanics/balance standpoint they're both too powerful, and not powerful enough, and in the IC sense it's sad that they just get their potential squandered on pointless blathering or trolling most of the time.

I found the slave/pet conversation sort of entertaining, except for the one player most likely playing two characters. That shouldn't happen because it's OOC.

As for the flirting conversation, I didn't even read it all, I just skimmed over it.

Yeah, in a way it was entertaining, but it made me wary of checking the game during my lunch break with other people sitting next to me. And I remember two of the creepy people were pretty obviously fake (or maybe they were both the same guy putting on a really elaborate radio skit) but how do you point out in an IC way that that they're clearly making the whole thing up because you can see they're writing emotes for two separate characters in the same post?

Next time it happens, someone should report it so that it can be checked out. Nobody should put stuff from two characters in the same message because you're not supposed to play other people's characters.

Don't be such a killjoy! It wasn't getting in the way of anything more 'serious' or 'important' and the conversation had pretty much ended by the time the complaints about it started up - and the complaints about what should and shouldn't be discussed on the radio is what annoys me more than the conversations they're complaining about!

I don't think any of my characters have ever seen any rules anywhere IG stating that the radio can only be used for trading or tracking criminals or announcing deaths...so I do wish the radio police would back off, cos I don't get who gave them the role of deciding what can/can't be broadcast!

Sometimes I think that the only way Cantr works is through people dying and other people inheriting their wealth. If everybody had to gather what they need, it would take years to make anything. We're standing on the shoulders of giants.

Such is the world.

Unfortunately, building something from nothing is by far the best thing that you can do in this game!!
