Re: The Dead Character Thread
Alba Died... something like 2 weeks ago, i dont remember exactly when... she died young, but prideful, and was my favorite character when she was alive
She borned Spanish, in a small Forest, whit other Two people and a house. Whitut knowing if they were awake she walked in the ouse, but there was nothing in there... outside, in the forest, there where no food, but the animals, so she started to hunt the animals. When the other two people waked up, a woman and a man, they looked stranged to this free young woman who lived happily in the woods... She whitout much knowing learned that she was on the Forest of Farkas... however, she interpreted it as if Farkas whas the world, the nature, and his forest was a gifht for her. She started to praise Farkas, the nature, giving part of her hunting expoils to the soil, and painting herself whit the blood of their "fallen brothers" the animals... the woman found that quite amusing, but the man, he didint liked that at all, and that was something that Alba sensed... but she didnt minded, she was free, and she only owned her life to Farkas.
Until one day, the man finally abrupted her, telling that Farkas was a nonesense, that he wasnt a god, Alba laughed t him, staying that she never belived that farkas was a god, but rather, it was the spirit of nature. The man, angry for a reason that Alba never understood called her a crazy woman, a wrong young girl, and stated her that she must stop "that nonesense" or leave that place. Alba, defiant, never left the place, and stayed, arguing whit the men until both, themen and the woman, locked her up in a truck, and nearly killing her (99% of damage)... She, whit the last breath, incomed her body to become the life of a new tree, a new animal, and killed herself, to be free, again..
(No really, I almost bursted in tears when these two were killing her just because she was different... so much misunderstooding in this world)

It was..
She was the character that tought me that Cantr wasnt a fair place, where sometimes they can kill you if you just are different (She was my 4 character, and my second character that died. the first was a little son of a B*** that stole some asparagus as he was borned and tried to trick the guards of the city whit some word games... he lasted 4 days)

I would say less fair, since there are no (or very small) consequences to a player for his/hers characters actions.

No, as fair. There are plenty of places in the world where people, if powerful enough, can act with impunity, and certainly in the past as well. Cantr reminds me a lot of the Wild West.

Except for CRB, the player IS irresponsible for his characters actions. I'm not a killer but I've had characters who've committed murder. Heck, I'm a not a girl and I have female characters. I really feel like if people distinguished characters from players the game would be much more relaxed. Losing characters would be easier and perhaps threads like "characters that annoy you" would still be alive.

Voltenion, I agree very much with what you say.
Easy to say, harder to do. I aspire always to follow this advice.

Re: The Dead Character Thread
Olga (the seer) Blackrock
Olga spawned in Klojt Mountains north on 2275, and was by far the most challenging character I've ever played. It was just her and a few others in the mountains, and she spent the first few decades of her life trying to help the leader, Mia Splendid, build a truck, the Mountain Splendor Ranger. It was towards this end that she wound up in Blackrock Forest looking for window glass. At the time she was there, the Blackrocks let a prisoner run and hunted him down for sport. Olga was completely and utterly terrified. Her fear caused her to be so polite, in fact, that she drew the attention of Buff Blackrock, who decided she needed better clothes. Olga, at first terrified to be killed, was now even more terrified of being raped by Buff, who was probably one of the slimiest characters I've ever met. Perhaps he was just being genuinely nice, but she left Blackrock Forest psychologically traumatized.
It was at this time that I decided to give her a gimmick. Her trauma had now given her the ability to read people's "cosmic paths" using a set of "runes" that came to her in a dream, and that she carved onto small stones. She set up a shop in KMn for this purpose, and made a flyer that she distributed. The readings were done in real-time, by me, sitting at my desk actually casting runes, picturing the character in question. They were entertainingly accurate most of the time, and I think had I been able to keep on with it, she could have become quite a phenomenon in Cantr.
During this time, Mia died, and Olga inherited the town. The amount of wealth there was unimaginable, more than could be acquired in several lifetimes, and it was just her and a few work-sleepers to share it with. However, she was growing dead inside. It was becoming harder and harder to do the readings, as time consuming as they were. She was losing the ability to pursue her purpose in life, and that started her downward spiral. There were only two things in her life that made her feel anything at all. One was Satrap the Cynic. She developed a crush for him after several encounters, but his extended sleeping habits, combined with the fact that he was utterly insane, closed that door for her. The second was an incident where she became trapped in her own workshop as a newspawn attacker terrorized her. She felt fear for the second time in her life, and, as horrible as it was, it was something.
She decided to pack up and leave KMn and seek out the Blackrocks again, in the hope of once again feeling that fear, the only emotion she had, and the only proof that she was actually alive. To her dismay, the Blackrocks were overwhelmingly kind to her. In the time between her first visit and her second, the Tribe had transformed into a much softer group, the old hard-core Blackrocks having died off in the interim. When the Blackrocks left the forest to return to Noniwrok, Olga decided to join them and dedicate her life to Rau Naedell. She once again had a purpose.
On the long voyage, she developed a crush on Sal Blackrock, but that was quickly lost when she discovered that his shallow buffoonery wasn't actually an act. After arriving in Noniwrok, she was again disappointed when the war that was expected never materialized, the majority of the islanders welcoming them back with open arms. Again, no chance to experience the fear. No chance to feel alive. Over time, she gradually grew to dislike the majority of the other Tribe members, the only exceptions being Gene, Naedell, Vanya and Kru. In Kru she found a sympathetic partner, as their dislike of the others was mutual. This commonality lead to some deeper philosophical conversations regarding the nature of life. Kru believed that life itself was the ultimate purpose of life, that the point of life was to keep living. However, besides the runes, Olga was also given an understanding of the cosmos. She believed that life was a journey towards perfection, and that in each life, we learned lessons that applied to our souls, and that we kept spawning over and over until we learned all the lessons needed. Once that happened, our souls would continue on their cosmic journey. That is how she explained the phenomenon of so many sleepers - they had learned their lessons, and their souls had left their bodies. Kru and Olga's philosophies were directly opposed: Olga felt life was a means to an end, and Kru felt life was the end itself.
Yet despite their philosophical differences, affection between them grew. Before the Blackrocks took after Sydney and her renegade group of former Guardians, Kru gave Olga a beret which she wore with pride. They were separated during that conflict, and it was then, in his absence, that Olga knew here feelings were more than friendly towards him. Ready to storm Sydnie's galleon, she wrote her first of two letters to Kru, explaining her feelings. She gave the note to Hei to hold for her, in case she died, but victory was theirs, and the note was never delivered.
After that Kru travelled the island, and Olga grew to loathe the forest, the constant noise giving her migraines. She sought an assignment in Karnon Seaside, but quickly realized that she would sleep to death there. She relished the few times she could see Kru, but as her feelings for him grew, a rift was forming between Kru and Naedell. Olga, being one of Naedell's confidants, knew of Naedell's concern for Kru's growing belligerence and independence, but Olga never spoke of it to Kru out of loyalty to Naedell. This went on for years. Then, Olga had an idea to get out of the forest once and for all, and to grow the Tribe at the same time: She would form a Blackrock navy to protect the archipelago, and recruit people for the Tribe in the process.
She spent years at Karnon Seaside rigging the ship, and her haste to get started proved to be her undoing. She left port before she had locks on the cabin doors, and had all the ships supplies lying out on the deck. She docked at Kwor, and took on an eager man named X (he's at large, so I won't spoil it here). He was in his thirties, so she knew he wasn't just going to die on her, and he was very willing to help. They sailed to Burgeo, and right before they docked, X finished a small cabin and drug all the healing food and many resources into it, barricading himself inside. Olga was mortified and sent a distress signal. She maintained control of the ship, managing to get the ship back to Kwor with little effort. However, instead of docking, she kept going, trying to get to Karnon Seaside. She was too embarrassed to involve Kwor in this debacle; she didn't want to bring shame onto the Tribe. Sadly, between Kwor and Karnon Seaside, X finished the lock, and wounding Olga grievously, locked her into the same small cabin and took control of the ship, but not before Olga sent out a final distress call.
As she lie dying in that cabin, she again thought of Kru. She wrote her second letter to him, a letter she knew he'd never receive if she died, but she wrote it anyway, determined to express her feelings for him if she beat X. Luckily, she had kilos of healing food in her stomach, and healed all her damage the next day. (I later realized that it was from me testing the eating mechanism after it was implemented, and she was a character of mine that was alone and with vast resources that she could eat and no one would know or care). She also broke the lock on the first try. By then, X had barricaded himself into yet another cabin. She tried to steer the ship towards Karnon Seaside, but X was more diligent than before, causing her to only make half progress. It was then that she realized she'd have to sleep for five days. Having no healing food, and wanting to see Kru again, she abandoned ship and made her way home in disgrace.
Upon arriving home, she discovered that Naedell was asleep, and that no one was allowed to leave the forest. Kru was governor of West Kol, and wasn't there. He was the only person she wanted to see, and she couldn't. To make matters worse, everyone was treating her like a hero, deepening her sense of shame. All she wanted to do was run, but all the locks had been changed after her capture, and she was stuck. It was as if her existence had been erased in a week. Eventually, Kru arrived to see her. She gave him the two notes, but her feelings were unrequited. He didn't want to have to deal with a relationship, he told her, and gave her a brimmed hat he had made for her, a sort of consolation prize that offered no consolation at all. Putting her deep disappointment aside, the two of them hatched a plan to take Olga out of the forest. Kru and Olga took off, under the assumption that they would be tattled on when the Rau awoke. What happened instead was the most traumatic and disappointing event in the history of any of my characters. The rest of the Tribe pursued them, leading to a long screaming match between most involved. Olga, her dislike of the others now turned to thick hatred, shot herself with a crossbow and threatened to kill herself if they didn't leave them alone.
However, Sal turned the tables on her by blaming everything on Kru. She wouldn't let Kru's reputation be marred by this, and agreed to turn around and return home. At the travel tick, however, the car wound up at Karnon Seaside. Neither Olga or myself to this day know how Kru managed to turn the car around without anyone at all noticing, but he did, and that betrayal of her trust was a serious blow. Until then, she had been content to have Kru as a friend, but now, the things others had said about him, the concerns that Naedell had expressed about him, began to sink in. Kru assured her that they were fine, that he was Naedell's favorite, and that the other's weren't worth spit and the Rau new that. However, Olga knew he couldn't have been further from the truth, but still she said nothing. She went back to the forest, betrayed and disgusted, but then, the situation was made worse by Marian announcing on the radio that Kru had kidnapped her, and calling for all on the island to detain him on sight. While Olga was mortified over the loss of a ship due to her own complacency, here was another Blackrock shamelessly dumping the Tribe's problems onto the rest of the island, and doing so without having any of the facts. Incensed, Olga refused to speak to anyone until Naedell awoke.
After this, matters were settled between Naedell and Olga, but Kru had grown in arrogance and was was arrested shortly before the start of the Blackrock's big island-wide party. In a private meeting with Naedell, Olga told her everything about her feelings for Kru. Naedell told her what went on while Olga had been captured, that Kru had neglected to tell Naedell what was going on, that he misdirected the Tribe into gathering further away from the ship, ensuring that they'd not catch up with her. Olga dismissed both of these. Kru was a great strategist, and she figured he had good reasons for both. However, it was when she heard that, when they had called for Kru to come to the forest after her return, that he had initially refused, that her world shattered. She no longer loved or trusted him, and once again, she had lost any purpose for life. Serving Naedell wasn't enough any longer, not with all the shame she felt over what had transpired with the ship, and now her shame over being used by Kru to advance his own agenda.
After making a minor error in the sparring competition at the party, all the shame overwhelmed her, and Olga silently went back to her room and ran herself through with her scimitar. In doing so, she freed her soul to continue it's cosmic journey, and also did it as a final insult to Kru, who valued living above all. She was 95 years old, though, as she often said, she felt like she died decades prior.
If you play Kru, I'd really like to talk to you and find out what the truth was, about several things.

Re: The Dead Character Thread
That was surprisingly beautiful to read considering that none of my characters were at all involved, and that Olga was only ever met in passing.
Also, I'm sorry I missed the oppertunity to have my characters runes read.

My character did ask Olga to read her fortune, however Olga said her days of far seeing were over. She was still in the mountains back then. Mine was quite excited to meet her as she had seen the flyers. I'm sorry to hear of her passing.

I feel privileged. I have a character whom Olga did a reading for. It came in three parts. Part one was and became true quite quickly. Part 2 accurately described what did happen over the next decade. I remember thinking - hey, what? - as it unfolded. But at the time of the reading and for the next two decades I firmly believed part 3 would never happen. I had forgotten all about the reading. Well as I read Doug's entry guess what? My character now has lived part 3. As for my characters feelings on the reading, that's a story in itself.
I didn't realise Olga the seer was Olga the Blackrock.
Thanks Doug for the value added to my entertainment.
