though acording to the Oxford Desk Dictinary:
football: team game played with an inflated oval ball

soccer: form of football in which a spherical ball is kicked to score goals.

Then the Oxford Desk Dictionary may be wrong.

Football is Football, and Rugby is Rugby.

ps. I voted for Argentina.

we are acctually talking about two different (but very similar) languages. American English and British English

In British English football is equivilent to soccer in American English
in American English football is short for American football which is totally different from soccer (or in British football)

and talking about (American) football GO PANTHERS

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football

I think the Wiki works it out.

FIFA = Fédération Internationale de Football Association

http://www.fifa.com

The ones who organize the World Cup, you know.

Wilmer B.

Ps. By the way, saying "football" alone is understandable. But other sports need an adjective to make them understandable. "American Football", "Australian Football", "Gaelic Football"... ¿"Rugby Football"? :?:

ps. Argentina 2 - Cote d'Ivore 1... We're on the road! :D

But why is American football called football when the ball never touches the players feet? At least what we Brit's call football is actually played with the feet.
