IF we can make signs on the buildings the same way we can build landmarks in towns, then building amnesia will be great.
Say you come across one of the many abandoned buildings of cantr. You work out with the locals that that building now belongs to you. Unfortunatly, your name is Joe Brown, and the building is named something like "Pretty Kitty's Pink Pleasure Palace"
There are some names you want to forget!
With signage on the building, only people who dynamically named it Pretty Kitty blah blah blah will know it as such, and everyone looking at your building will see your sign saying "Brown's Traders" and name the "Unnamed building (cottage)" to Brown's Traders.
Now amneisia with no way to tell who's building is who's ... that would be stupid and complicated. But with signage, way cool.

Reality was never my strong point.

There's no point to amnesia in that case though. They can rename it dynamically to Brown's Traders when they see the sign. *shrugs* Seems pointless and unnecessary to implement building amnesia. I like signage. But why does the amnesia have to come with it? Just because it will force people to make signs? (which it probably won't, mind you)
What if they don't make signs because they're lazy and just go ahead and point and say, that's Brown's Traders now? Very much like it is now, only it will say Unnamed Building. Okay, so a business building would be a bad example. Most businesses would probably want to put up a sign. But what about homes? Who wants to put up a sign saying, "Joe Shmoe's House" on their house just so people automatically know? So, yea, they can be the ones to point. But it still makes amnesia seem pointless. The names can already be changed, so why bother?
Unnecessary and a hassle is what it sounds like.

She summed up what I was trying to say in a sentence.
Nakranoth's "evil" character says:
"Thief! That's terrible! *shakes his head* That would hurt people's feeling if I did that."

Why not? Obviously people are automatically putting up signs that say those things now. You even see tiny one gram buildings with huge signs that say things like 'Joe Shmoe is an idiot'. Cantrians just love their signage.
And maybe instead of 'Joe Schmoes house' which is only going to be an annoyance for the town after Joe sleeps to death, a sign might say '12 Sea Lane' or whatever. I know lots of towns that are trying to recycle old buildings, and having everyone who comes into town see 'Pretty Kitty's Pink Pleasure Palace' is a real problem...who's going to want to put their business in a building like that? Instead they want to make a new building, and when they die the town gets even more cluttered. 'Brown's Traders' wouldn't make a very good temple or tailoring shop after all, so new buildings will have to be made for those things to. Lots of towns have more buildings than actual people.
Personally I can't wait for building amnesia, and hopefully vehicle amnesia too. How often do you see a car or a building with a name painted directly on it? Usually it's just a sign that lets you know...thoug even if it was painted on, a new owner would still have the option to paint over it.
What's the difference between fixed names and fixed signs?
Are signs going to be fixed? I don't think I read anything about that...as far as I can tell the whole point is that they can be changed out by new owners.

Even with signs that would still be a problem again, eventually. People wouldn't like the sign and they'd build a new building instead of a new sign (yes, silly, I know as a sign will probably take less to make). Or they'd make a new building because they'd want something that was 'new'. With signs, the main point is that they can build a sign and say, this building is something else now whether it said 'Unnamed Building' or 'Pretty Kitty's Pink Pleasure Palace', not let's forget the names of all the buildings we've know since we spawned so we can build signs.
Building amnesia, no matter how long we're given to make signs, will be too fast. Anyway, if we're given time to rename all the buildings so we won't forget, that defeats the purpose of the amnesia.
It still seems pointless to wipe the names. I've not seen one really, truly good reason that warrants it. People will or will not build signs, unnamed building or not. There are simply too many buildings and too many vehicles. I definitely think vehicles should be left well enough alone, especially if buildings are going to get wiped.

I agree. I see no reason to wipe known building names already. This just means people are going to have to travel to every building they know of, click in the dynamic name, and press enter. Lame.
When signs are added, anyone will be able to see that the sign doesn't match their dynamic name for it, and change it if they feel like it.

Why is that such a problem? It's not hard, and even if it was it wouldn't really be necessary. How many buildings does your char really need to know the names for, anyway? In a small town maybe a town leader would be in and out of every building every day, but in a place like Tirqci for instance, who knows or cares what all the buildings are for? Most people just use a couple of public buildings and their own, if they have it. If for some reason they need to visit an unfamiliar one they can ask for directions or read the sign, just like in real life.

I would say that instead of amnesia, all buildings should receive a free sign when they are implemented, with their name on it...
Then you can wipe it if necessary... but there are no adverse problems. The signs can be replaced by those who wish to do so, and Cantr doesn't have a huge blind period where nothing is named.
Location amnesia was good... building amnesia would not be, in my opinion.
But the important issue is... give us signs, dammit!
