I seem to recall that there was a project that attempted to introduce solar ovens in one nation in order to save the dung that was being used for cooking, for fertilizer instead. Reportedly, the project flopped, among other reasons because the people thought the food cooked in the solar ovens was tasteless...

I don't know about Cantr, maybe you can get carnivore dung in the game, but in real life the stuff people use mostly comes from ruminating herbivores. So dung is basically dried plant material. So no, it doesn't stink anymore than any kind of grass or leaves you might pulverize, add water to, and then dry.

Not that I'm a farm boy, but I have on occasion lived and worked in the general vicinity of cattle, and goats, and horses. There is a difference between dung and lawn clippings. Sometimes a very noticeable difference.

Oh drying dung with the fire pit, very nice
And how do you get that firepit? What if you don't have any iron to build the bloody shovel?

Well, I wouldn't call myself a farm girl, but we do raise a handful of cattle. And yes, there's an obvious difference in appearance once the grass has been digested, but it's still made up of the same stuff. What goes into the stomach comes out of the stomach. It's not like there's anything disgusting added during that process that people have to freak out.
And a fire pit is a start, but as had already been mention, they require a shovel to build. I'm hoping that's just one of the methods possible, and more will be added once somebody gets around to programming a new machine made with simpler tools and materials.

http://www.cantr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6787&start=45 Look at what I wrote here on the relevant thread in Genral Discussion. To summarize for those who only know this thread exists...
Drying is possible now in the firepit, as well as the primitive oven. (I will try and get this to the wiki ASAP). As for the entirely justified tool requirement against the firepit (I want to see it changed as much as ya'll do), the primitive oven was added for that very reason. It requires no tools, only mud. A drying project on the drying rack has been discussed, but not added so far. The stone wall thing is a nice idea. I'll have to give that some thought.
