Sorry, Pirog. It wasn't an exhaustive list, and comments and additions are welcome.Who makes ya'll laugh? Throw 'em out and tell why.
Oh, and this thread wasn't because I watch too much news TV. This thread was inspired by the general bitchiness of people here on the forum, on TV, at the workplace, on the sidewalk, in the backseats of cars, and in bars. It's become rampant as is spilling out into everything. And in case you didn't notice, drinking amplifies the problem. We have people who try to unwind that way in the states, Cookie...they're called rednecks. You might get along with them quite well actually!
Laughter is the best medicine to combat self-importance, and most of those routines I mentioned are on ALBUMS and RADIO. Not TV.The whole world could use more of The Bob and Tom Show in their day! http://www.bobandtom.com
My point wasn't specificly about TV either. My point was that your stupid view of how people are today is ridiculous and is based on what you have seen on TV.
Are people so bitchy like you say, no. Things havent changed. People arent bothered about national rivalries and wars and all the rest of it there more bothered about the fa cup final and what they're having for there flipping dinner.
And what I was saying about pubs was not to do with drinking. Pubs are about SOCIAL drinking. A place where people gather to talk to each other. If your country had more of 'em YOU, as in you not your country, might actualy appreciate that what you see and hear on TV isn't necesarily right. It's a load of exagurated crap created to make you buy there shity products and enter their rubbish phone polls.
Now stop whinging on about comics and go and have a drink with your mates!

Aw c'mon Cookie, lighten up. We're here, chatting about relaxing, and you're sounding like your turning green telling us to relax at a pub. Hey, we know all about social drinking, but we can have fun in other ways as well. Maybe you ought to go to a few more comic shows.
Here here for Jon Stewart and Larry the Cable Guy. And I'll just add Conan O'Brian to the list.
btw: Dennis Miller USED to be funny. I loved watching his HBO show. Then he got political. And he went to the right in what I believe is a counter Jon Stewart attempt. Sadly, he is not cut out for that kind of schtick. But I will give him props for his rants back in the day.

It just seems from that whenever I read is what Witchita saying, he is talking about how people should not be arguing because he finds it boring.
Sure, I don't like people is who lose it over everything, but some things people are going to talk about. Can't just watch television all day. There's things to be discussed.
Comedy doesn't solve problems. It makes you happier. Unless that being unhappy was your problem, in which case, it does.

Au contraire, mon frere. Comedy is often a great way to solve problems. Comedians have the unique ability to comment on the absurdity of issues without actually engaging in a debate, and are therefore able to share views with mass audiences that you could never get from actual debaters, who often are too wrapped up in debunking the opposition's arguements that they often lose track of what they're arguing about in the first place. Comedy is often the last refuge of sensibility.

It's not going to go away after decades of pointless debate in a lot of cases either. There is a fine line between discussion and rambling, and far too many people can't tell the difference. Then they get all worked up and feel like it's the end of the world if their point of view is accepted and take it personally when the game doesn't go their way.
And no, I don't avoid confrontation. If it's worth fighting for I fight. If it's a neutral point I'll try to offer a logical contribution to the discussion. If it's just absurd and childish...I'll sit back and watch the pissin' match.
And like AoM said, it's not just an opiate for the masses. These guys provide some of the greatest social commentary of our time, because when you really sit and think about it...the truth is usually funny. Some of them even challenge our bass-ackward social norms - the premises on which we often base our social structures and challenge us to really sit back and reanalyze why we do some of the crazy stuff we do. Otherwise we might just go around venting opinions that we really haven't thought about in any great detail.
So get your news from the Daily Show. You'll be much more balanced individual. At least you'll end the day with a smile, and that's better than being pretentious any day.
I helped my girlfriend clean under her sofa this weekend and....
...if that was the old sense of humour, I don't want it back! We were chasing a cockroach, so what was I really expecting?

No I'm not, I'm just trying to make it clear that Wichitas idea that the world is sudenly a worser place to live in is a load of rubbish.
And if you want escapism from what your 'awful lives,' sport is the best there is. Not comedy, sport.
If you were going to make a thread about comedians, why didn't you. Instead of comenting on the apparant situation of our lives. Because I disagree, I'm having great fun.

Sports would be alright if it weren't for the tendency for the elevated testosterone levels mixed with adrenaline to induce all kinds of bizarre behavior in the average idiot. If it weren't for basketball, I would have never known I could fit inside a locked gym locker.
And chill out, mate. I'm not delcaring the fall of civilization here, I'm just pointing out that people have been a bit uppity lately. And no my opinion is not being corrupted by the media. When you grow up and get out into the real world, maybe you will find out what I am talking about. It's not just on TV it does happen at work, and in restaurants, and the pub, and on the bus, und so weiter.
I just wanted to know what is up and if there was anything that I or anybody else could offer to help ease the tension. It seems like everybody on this thread except for Cookie Monster, Schme, and I suppose Mr. Floyd seems to understand what I am saying. And you guys are in here up in our grill supporting my point. Lighten up.
It's just not worth it, man.
