It's... really damn easy to figure out who plays what character if you pay even a little bit of attention. What makes it amusing is when they try so damn hard to hide it, and it's so damn obvious. Knowing who plays what has never bothered me, and never coloured my interactions with those characters (I'm one of those "RPers" though.)
That said, if you do end up talking to people OOCly (via AIM, MSN, IRC, etc.) be very careful. Not everyone thinks the same way I do, and I've had characters killed due to OOC plotting by third parties to specifically kill that character. Assume everything you say on the forums, on IRC, etc., is being used and abused by everyone else. People WILL take things said OOCly (such as here on the forums) and use them in the game.

This makes me want to say that I've known for a long time that a lot of people probably figured out who I play effortlessly. I only keep trying to be vague in case there's anyone left who doesn't know, like new people who haven't gotten the clues from past posts.
I don't think I should post here without offering some advice, so here's another two cents or whatever it's worth: be respectful to the staff and keep all discussions about perceived rule-breaking and such in private communication, no matter who thinks who is right or wrong about what. I've seen silly stuff get blown way out of proportion for lack of politeness and willingness to keep things private.

I don't know if that's true. Every once in awhile a post in the 'I am...' thread will catch my eye if it seems to match up to someone one of my characters knows, but they're usually vague enough that it's hardly what I'd call obvious, or at least not possible to rule out coincidence unless I see other posts pointing in the same direction. And even direct references to events only mean anything to me if, again, I have a char of my own around the char that's being referenced. There's only a very small handful of people out there that are high profile enough that I know a little about them without having had a char run into them, and even then it's limited to what I hear on the radio.
I see characters mentioned in the RP Praise thread constantly and I have no idea who they are, let alone who their players are.

I have always thought of the "I am" thread as a way (sometimes detrimental) that some people drop hints to their chars.

I do want to comment on the 4 day rule though.
We see this as a minimum time period and theoretically the restriction could be forever if ongoing events are still seen as a result of an action or relationship of the past. If someone contacts us about a post that may impede their continuing RP, we generally will edit first.
