I must admit, I am obsessed with culture, I hate when people RP characters that have super democratic ideals, and are spawned in Lad.
Simply not reasonable, IMO.

I believe most people don't mean to read the forum use that knowledge when they play a new spawn, but many of the new spawns in Lad react to the greetings in a totally odd way, assuming they are being repressed.

Lad: Welcome to Lad, Each Citizen can choose from many jobs... you can make tools, you can set out to gather resources, you can earn trust and join the guards... what is it you wish to be in life?

New Spawn: I am going to be forced to work?!?! You are all EVIL!!!!

You see New Spawn being dragged to ......

You don't see the New Spawn ever again.

yeah, newspawn roleplay in Lad sucks.

everyone's all like, "we need freedom! how dare you repress us!"

whereas a good RPer would be like..."cool...sounds good, i guess. what's freedom?"

if you're born into a repressive society you don't fxcking KNOW there's anything better out there. sheesh, people, use your brains.

and your brians.

I am not even saying that they shouldnt recognize being repressed, I just don't see how the greeting is repressive, insulting, restrictive, or anything but inviting. In other places New Spawns ask for food and look for jobs, in Lad if they are offered food and a job, they act as if it we just slapped them.

It is difficult to be a newspawn in lad. I had 1 newspawn there only. They offered food, she took it and left town. next thing i know is that i recived an e-mail...

And I agree with you completely. I also like to see repression in cantr, BUT I want to actually repress them before they yell about it.

Let's just assume that in the 20 years your character takes to grow up, they've heard from travellers that there are better places to live.

It works :P

nope. Even if that were true, nobody remembers the first 20 years of their lives.

I'm working on implementing the 'spawn tree' concept into the game--newspawns come from ripe pods of the spawn tree, a plant ubiquitous in cantr. We don't see it as a resource because we're so used to it...just like you don't view your parents as potential sources of stew meat. Most people don't, i mena.

It'll take some RPing, and it'll have to be a town in which I have a fair amount of influence, but it'll be fun.

Who's with me?
