Do you mean that all standardskills of any char will appreciate over time Chris? And all at the same progressive rate i hear altho they start out from a random number.
Clearly there are pro's and cons, i don't like seeing chars spawn and fight cos they want to see that specific skill. I admit my chars like to find their skills out cos they count. So they join various projects if any are around when i have time and the skill will be listed, i bet some people dislike this behavior, btw your char will not notice cos it only takes a second.
I know my chars can deal with awkward skills by changing jobs with other players which requires communicating, so roleplay but this hardly ever happens, other chars are sleeping too often.
A few more thoughts: I don't think i'd mind if skillratings were hidden. We should mind skills are not viewed by players as too decisive.

No. You have to use skills for them to develop. Chris meant that most skills are developed by working on projects, and the rate of improvement is the same for all of them. The only exceptions are the three skills he mentioned.
