Returner, characters and their players share the same mind, so your point #1 is not valid. Roleplaying is different than acting.

Then why isn't this the "Characters that irritate YOU" thread? Why have people been told off previously for saying things about characters which have annoyed THEM?

Characters need to be seperate from players. You're so fundamentally wrong here I can't even be bothered going into it.. but just briefly; I have a character who is a murderer. I do not think like him at all, he is autonomous and I play how I THINK he would think. But I don't think that way and he doesn't share the same mind as me. (by mind, I refer to the culmination of knowledge, thoughts, emotions, attitudes, personality etc).

Saying that role-played characters are different to acting is entirely flawed. Most good players can have their characters act out a role, or play a role. I'm still shocked you even picked me up on that point Doug. It's hardly something I'd imagine one would argue about.

So you seriously think roleplay is different to acting? Go read a thesaurus, dictionary or just go ask a role-player.

EDIT: by your post I have great doubt you actually understand how to play the game.. In fact I think I have met one of your characters and it would make absolute sense..

Role-playing is playing a role. Acting is becoming someone else. There IS a difference, and I'm sorry you can't see that. I'm done arguing with you over stupid piddly shit stuff. I'm sorry if I came off that way, but I was just bewildered by your statement that roleplay is different to acting. I was also bewildered by the fact that you think this thread is about characters that irritate the player, not the character (or you just can't tell the difference).. both of which are flawed and wrong and both of which were used in a failed attempt to counter-act me defending those players who are not as linguistically or grammatically advanced as others.

I don't think anyone would suffer a loss if the thread was officially extended from characters that annoy yours to characters that annoy you as a player. You might be able to keep your character's emotions completely separate from your own but I would assume most people can't.

Really? I thought it was something most players did / grasped. Actually, isn't it OOC and almost a CRB to put in your own thoughts and emotions (your personal ones) into the game? I'm obviously talking about thoughts here as well.

Generally things that are annoying are universally annoying.

I wouldn't be against this thread including Characters that irritate you, but there's already a thread like that somewhere. I remember people telling others off in this thread and giving them the link to it.

I think we can't help putting a bit of ourselves into our characters, thus their emotions might be the same as ours. But we might or should use different aspects of our personality for different characters, and often they are included without conscious thinking. If I play a character who's generally a do-gooder and a jolly good fellow (albeit female) I'll be less likely to feel irritated by characters who are played by poor spellers since I'm in the mindset of that character. But my own feelings reflect those of the character. While if I play a character who tends to get irritated by everything and thinks they are better than everyone else, they are likely to look down on poorly played characters. I wouldn't say they were my emotions, I can usually recognize the thoughts and feelings of my characters, but my own feelings often tend to mirror those of my characters. So it's my characters' personalities influencing me rather than vice versa.

Twice I've had the feeling like the tissues of my airways were swelling when my character was upset, I'm not diagnosed with asthma but it's hard to think what else it could be besides an asthma attack launched by stress. I don't feel personally upset, I'm just aware of my character being upset, but it affects me physically and makes my breathing wheeze and makes me feel like the inside of my throat was swelling. I might also get shallow breathing if my character is feeling scared or emotionally disturbed. I might cry when my character is crying. And some other things.

I think we all put a little bit of ourselves into our characters. I mean, we may not create a character that mirrors us exactly, but we have characters which nice, mean, snide, smart-aleck, etc....each being one of our own qualities. However, we may exhibit those characteristics in a minimalized fashion whereas our cantr characters display them exaggeratedly. It's part of the reason many of experience our characters' emotions in some form or fashion.

I know this sounds strange, but due to the leadership roles some of my characters have taken, I've learned to be more confident in real life. Anyone else experience this before?
