Ah, but the important difference is that the first and last letters in that are always correct. And all the correct letters are present.

Definitely interesting though. This is what we give scientists grants for! Not stupid biscuit-dunking experiments.

Yes, I was able to read wichita's quote but I was reading more slowly than I do when words are spelled correctly. Also, these were all relatively simple words in simple phrases so the meaning was fairly easy to follow. If there were any complexity about the structure of the sentences or if the words were actually unusual or polysyllabic (or interesting in any way) it would quickly turn into incomprehensible gibberish which I would have to stop and try to decipher and still not be sure if I were getting the meaning which the writer intended.

I think the (super predicable) sentence context was what made the words easy to guess. Taken out of context there would be much less certainty about the meaning of many of the words.

Notice how it was necessary to spell Typoglycemia correctly? If you had only the first and last letter would you have any idea what the word was or meant? Since I know what typo means and I know what glycemia means I wouldn't really even need the definition as long as the word is spelled correctly.

This is why I hate Pie's posts. Not because I am hypervigilant about spelling and grammar but because I have to spend too much time trying to understand what he is too lazy (or deliberatly annoying) to spell out (literally). This is why I will be skipping over all of Pie's posts in the future. If he can't bother to make himself clear then I can't bother to read what he is attempting to say.

If I cared enough I would find a quote from someone who can write really well and mix up their spelling following the rules from above and we could see how easy that would be to follow.

Another personal favorite of mine!

Euro-English

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the EU rather than German, which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, Her Majesty's Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5 year phase-in plan that would be known as "EuroEnglish": --

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c".. Sertainly, this will make the sivil sevants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favor of the "k". This should klear up konfusion and keyboards kan have one less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with the "f". This will make words like "fotograf" 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkorage the removal of double letters, which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horible mes of the silent "e"'s in the language is disgraceful, and they should go away.

By the 4th yar, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v". During ze fifz year, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaning "ou" and similar changes vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters.

After zis fifz yer, ve vil hav a reli sensibl riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubls or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech ozer.

ZE DREM VIL FINALI KUM TRU!!
