World War II? I'm bloody glad we joined that

I'm also glad I've missed the purile posts that must've been there before the editing.

Canadians and Americans are just as awful with farm subsidies. They both pay their farmers, no matter what they grow, extra money, simply for being farmers.

How can we ask African and south american countries to stop subsidising their farmers, to remove any barriers to us selling our farm produce, when the US, Canada, EU and the rest of the G8 countries have huge subsidies for farmers, and large trade and tax barriers to incoming food from poor countries.
Whoever you vote for.

The government wins.

If it wasn't for subsidies most farmers would starve to death. The market prices for most farm commodities are too low for them to turn a profit. And huge commercial farming outfits compound the problem, cranking out mass produced low quality goods. It's really sad when city dwellers look at farmers like they're lazy ignorant rednecks just taking welfare. Without the subsidies the farms would fold and then there would be no food. I'm pretty sure that would be bad.

I love the signs that line I70 and I35 in northeastern Kansas. They point out that one Kansas farmer feeds 128 people a year. How much to they get compensated for their all important contribution to society? Not enough let me tell you. I think I would much rather pay the man who gives me food than the egotistical schmuck that can kick a ball into a net, or the pompous businessman who lays off half of his factory workers to get a fat performance bonus, or a lot of people.

I hope I didn't misunderstand the point of this thread. After all....I have some Welsh in my heritage. :?
