Re: Did Discord kill the forum? How do you feel about that?
April 20th is probably a fair date to consider the start of the Discord chats, since that is likely when most people had time to learn about it and because such a large number of players at least logged in to the discord channels that day.
You would need to wait until, say, 35 days have passed and maybe figure out a way to easily take forum posts counts for the last 30 sets of 35 days. Toss that on whatever sort of trend line you like to use. That should answer the question.

I haven't tried discord so I dunno. I thought we just had a lull in the forum. Those things happen.

It's amusing that a game that prides itself on being slow paced prefers a fast paced OOC chatroom instead of slower forums.

It's voice chat, right? Like Skype for groups?

I completely forgot about Discord being announced. The forum lulls are so common nowadays that it didn't cross my mind. Not likely to use it, just as I have abstained from IRC this time around. Now I have "Video Killed the Radio Star" stuck in my head.

Guys, get on Discord!
It's like IRC, except with a better interface, and you can actually see the chat logs (so you don't miss out on a conversation if you have to leave / go to work / etc).
There's literally hundreds of players in there now!
https://discord.gg/8EamRse
You can regularly chat with staff, including GreeK, Pies and Czez, at least more so than here. And they're wonderful to talk with.
edit: Just as an example, right now, there's 12 people online, and if you want to chat with someone you can just @tag them - and assuming they've got the mobile version, they'll likely appear straight away. It's awesome!

I don't think it killed forums, forums have always been quite quiet and beside, it seems people favor easy to use than say forums

I think it's kiling mostly not directly game related topics. Like forum games or non game discussion in general.
Real time discussion creates way for better thoughts exchange so also "ideas forum" might suffer a bit but in other hand not so many people where active in this forum, so maybe now it will be more popular on discord.

Re: Did Discord kill the forum? How do you feel about that?
Yeah, as long as the forum is still a reliable way to report bugs, make suggestions and just have general discussion I don't see it dying off over what's basically "improved irc". At least I hope not. Judging by the number of replies to this thread so far, I'd say it's just a lull. There's just no active discussions happening and nobody has started or revived a topic in a while.
For me personally, I avoid things like irc because 99% of my non-work related online activities are done over my smart phone, and I don't really need another reason to stare at my phone's screen. That's probably just me. Maybe I'm missing out on something but I'm ok with that.

I assumed Discord would be as dead as Cantr irc channel, so I didn't bother checking it out. I don't believe there would be 100 players there.

The fact that you don't have to have it open constantly to see previous messages or be spoken to (and the nice app, with notifications) I think is what makes Discord more effective and popular than IRC, and also why we decided to try it in the first place. I like IRC, but I'm a computer nerd. I'm not sure it appeals to everyone these days.

"kill" would indicate that the forum was alive to begin with
followed by 12 people......
I think its also a telling sign of the game status and environment when staff won't converse with people on its own forum.
