The Colony - New Discovery Show

Postby Russell of Los Angeles » Sat Jul 11, 2009 11:49 pm

I just found this new show starting on the Discovery channel called The Colony. It looks like it's part reality show, part simulation, part roleplay. It's 10 people put into a post-apocalyptic survival scenario. Like "Survivor" in Los Angeles after a plague as wiped out 99% of the population, perhaps.

The weird thing is that, while the 10 core people are playing themselves as in a reality show, it seems that there will be actors playing the parts of gangs who will come to harass them.

Anyway, I thought it had some parallels to Cantr. :D

A TV show about a post-apocalyptic survivalistic struggle? In a channel that I actually have in my cable set-up?
OMG OMG SO AWESOME! *Runs to see it*

Jep.
I was feeling too lazy to click anything.

So I used tab to switch to 'post reply' and 'submit'.
Yet I did not do so to select and 'Enter' the link.

So I watched it.. kind of felt like a CBD version of Survivorman or Man vs Wild (just with lots of free handouts).

I think they need to toughen up.. such easy access to everything they could possibly need! And that psychologist needs to gtfo.

lol yeah it wasnt as great as I thought it would be, but it may get better...

I did like the fact though that they are really getting under the impression that they are in the post-world era. The longer they are there the more they feel that it real and not just a tv set. Pretty cool.

In a real world decimation caused by a virus/bacterial source would leave MASSIVE amount of supplies to the survivors/immune. The best place to go: Trainstation. Massive backup generators, you could get as much petrol as you'd ever need. And if you turns everything off but say like, the main area lights, and then made rooms out of cloth or such you've got the perfect refugee area. Bottled water would be aplenty at first, but I guess it'd be better in the long run to set up a few stills and such to clean water...

I suspect in many urban plans schools are the designated refugee camps.

They usually are evenly distributed by population, they have plenty of room, kitchens, bathrooms, heating, basic medical resources, and trigger an order and discipline memory in most people. They «should» be more resistant to earthquakes, sports fields can be used by helicopters, etc.
