NiteGFX NEEDS YOU! New Upcoming Game!

Postby N-Aldwitch » Sat Apr 29, 2006 8:26 am

NiteGrafix, if you remember us, the Free Film Network, are developing a game, using our forums to communicate.

It's basically like a side-scrolling 2D game like Liero or Worms, or GunBound (we're doing graphics like GunBound- check out www.gunbound.net ).

It's going to be like a tank game where you must shoot the other opponent, until they lose all their life, turn-based (which means you take turns in shooting) and at the start after designing your character, you pick one of four mounts (more mounts to be drawn later). This mount fights with you sitting on it's back.

It goes from being this cute little bubble-like thing, monotone coloured(tier/level 1), to this massive, brilliant dark Dragon-like creature gliding through the air. (tier/level 5).

There are over 100 'personal' levels, every 20 levels you can upgrade your monster! Check out the two topics of
NiteGFX Upcoming Game
and
Graphics Now Needed!

http://forum.nitegfx.com
or
http://www.nitegfx.com/forum/index.php

Remember you can also apply for programmer, tester, ideas department or spokesperson... Hurry in! This may turn out to be an opportunity of a lifetime, a later-payed job! (for now it's free-work :P just to get the game up)

Seeya there!!

An honest reply is, not as of yet. It will be programmed in C++ by me (I'm learning it from a book I bought a week and a bit ago), and perhaps anyone else who can pitch in, whether or not the code will work on Linux is another question.

I take it you're running Linux... What is your motive for asking? (ie wanting to join the graphics department, testing department, etc).

Mostly because I like things that run on linux :)

Secondly, because I've alpha/beta-tested various linux based, or linux versions of commercial and open sourced games.

EDIT: if it's a C++ game, it should be easily portable to linux (Not that I, personally, know how...)

EDIT2: And if it's anything like worms, it can't be bad :)

Great, thanks for the input.

It's probably some simple set of rules I have to follow to change the code so Linux understands it.

Good luck. You'll need it with a weeks knowledge.

What are you using as your graphic medium?
Directx? Opengl? Or even the old windows api?

If it's anything like gunblade, or the worms2 onwards - i.e: 2d (the original worms is still the best by far) it shouldn't really need openGL or DirectX, and could probably run fine on SDL libraries

I've downloaded a 600+ page e-book on OpenGL and all my C++ buddies (lol) have agreed that OpenGL is the way to go.

However this game will not need those graphics, most of the graphics may in fact even be written outside of the game.

Once we figure out a game name, I'll make the domain name for it and we can set up a task list and everything for production for those who want to help out.

If you want to help out, the best you can do right now (pie, this goes to you too) is to sign up on the Forums we have, and chat randomly in General Discussion or chat in Game Department or something.

Link above.
Thanks.
