Lock Breaking on Roads

Postby cpkangaroo » Mon Sep 12, 2005 1:18 am

So all my travelling charries are seeing the same locks being broken on the roads. I assume others see the same. What's up?

I just want this brought up again, it is rediculous. One of my characters is on a road on an entirely different island from my other ones on the road, yet they can all hear the same locks breaking. Whats the deal?

Message bugs of this type pop up regularly with other things, like docking and using materials on projects, and I'm not sure anyone knows how they happen. If this is happening with every lock-breaking, then it is cause for concern.

I'll chime in - ditto for two of my characters, one of whom is on the Russian continent. :) Trying to learn the language.

Yeah, it's kind of like the ghost ship stuff.

I do think it is every lock breaking, it seems like it happens about once every real time hour, so that is probably all the lock breaking in the world.

I should have been more clear. The messages I think we're seeing are the lock destroying messages. The new implementation of the ability to destroy locks from inside with a screwdriver. I know of at least one instance where a lock destruction attempt was begun, but no message appeared on the roads. So it's not happening all the time. I think this is probably a bug that was introduced with the new lock destroying code.

I believe peanut managed to break a lock on a car, before the first of the error messages appeared, I cant remember how long betweent the two events, but one could have caused the other.

So now anybody with a screwdriver can break out of a locked room?

Is the lock destroyed or not?

I think this sucks. This is as bad as boarding locked, docked ships and stealing them.

Have the programmers lost their minds? Why are the criminals suddenly getting all the advantages?

This is changing advantages, but not necessarily in favor of criminals, Kinvoya.

The message seen by all travellers about a lock being destroyed is technically the same bug as the Ghost undocking messages

With regards the current implementation of lock destroying projects, both locked and unlocked locks can be destroyed using this method. No lock is left on completion of this project

takes off ProgD hat
Personally I would have preferred it if you could only destroy unlocked locks

I agree... this is actually a bug. Mea culpa, will fix asap. Please note that, though you can start a project on a locked lock right now, your project will be deleted as soon as this is fixed.

Alright, thanks, this could definitely give an advantage to someone who suddenly hears their lock break and decides to cut their trip short
