I've never seen this before:
My char is a bit afraid to cross it
Is it the Kraken, or the doughnut hole of the torus...?

Re: Line in the sea
It is the edge of the world! If you cross it, you will fall off the world into nothingness (or is it called nowhereness?).
Probably it is just a weird line on the world map that shouldn't be there.

Your character shouldn't be afraid...they should just sail down east to the end of the line and go around it. They need not worry, they have a telescope to see that way around it
Interesting though...

Somebody misjudged when connecting chunks of the map and left a pixel line empty?

Noooo.
Would have been cool if it could have been left as is. It'd be one of the natural wonders of the world, just like that square mountain. Now no one will ever believe that char when he talks about the bottomless crack in the sea floor.
