The only reason North is considered up on maps is because that puts Europe (then the center of all activity [at least to them]) on top of the world. In ancient times, the south end of Egypt was called "upper" egypt by those who lived there.

In arabian maps, south was up.

In that case though, it was because the Nile flows up from the south. Not because of their relative position on the globe. Still a valid example of southern orientation... just a different reason.

Exactly. Since north was downstream, north became down on the map

So there's no reason why Cantr should follow any conventions in that respect

since this is on the topic of boats and navigation, is that bug still in effect where lets say you come from the sea and dock at olip west and you undock and you are on a lake?
