I believe the bone sword was taken out of the game.
And you can't build the lock until after the longboat is built. And to answer your question, someone could steal the longboat after it is built. That just means that your characters will have to be rather quick on their feet to secure the ship before someone else does. But there was a real problem in that the long boat was the only sea worthy ship that didn't require iron and steel. You see if there is ever an island that doesn't have iron then it would be almost impossible to get off the island except if another island with iron happens to find that island. You see the problem.
