My first encounter with non-english speaker

Postby Slowness_Incarnate » Sat May 06, 2006 3:04 am

It was terrible. The end.

No really, he is killing my character, screaming in all sorts of other worldly tongues. My character is like Umm...hi..and he's all *stab*. :( Oh well, anyway..she'll be dead really soon, and so ends the cultural blending!

How have other people managed to interact with other cultures?

 That sounds awful.

My charry ran into a Polish speaking character on a largely empty island. It was generally friendly...... alot of gesturing and they exchanged a couple of items and then went on their separate ways.

One of my English speaking characters ran into a boat full of German speaking characters on the high seas. I docked to this big old galleon that I saw floating there. Luck was on my side, and at least one of them could speak very understandable english. I found out that they didn't have much rubber in their home island, so I traded a bit of rubber for a bunch of iron. I got some directions to the German homeland, so I think I am going to try to find my way over there sometime.

:D

I actually have a character in a Polish town right now, he built himself a house and unloaded his boat. Old guy with tons of stolen resources surrounded by devils. Lucky me its a small town with only 15 people there with bone clubs.

Yeah, there is a lot of defaulting to English on the German island right now. Pretty sad, really, if you ask me. Interaction of the language groups is probably the only really entertaining thing about the game for me at the moment. :? My German female is having a great time learning Spanish in the forest. They are very nice and don't give in to English like the Dutch and Germans.

Keiran met a Russian girl once, or at least I think it was a Russian. The text encoding was Western so it came out as nonsense. I was pretty surprised. He dropped her off in the next stop.

Donny El Potatoe? I have a hard time communicating with that guy...

Yaba! (if you've been to that town, you'll know what I'm talking about)

Though...there's this one character I've met, on an almost deserted town that I rule, and its in the English Server, I don't know what language he speaks. Did he join the English Server even though he speaks a different language? I translated it, and got bits and peices by combining many different language translations.

My king of a small town saw a boat for the first time in 30 years lol. This time they gave us stuff and they were very smart. Dropping the item and saying its name after. Then I would translate it on a note to enlisgh as they dropped the item =P

My english character seem to have come across either an Esperanto area or a place near enough that all the notes are. Unfortunatley she's only encountered one living person and he was asleep.

For the moment she's trying to make head or tails of the notes she's found, judging by words that sound similar to those she knows.... (since I don't know the language either this is fairly easy!)
