Categorisation of build menu

Postby Razorlance » Mon Mar 06, 2006 3:16 pm

Since Wojd has been on a roll with his new icons how about adding an icon for each category currently in the build menu to the character menu, so instead of the options 'build or manufacture something' and 'Manufacture clothes' under the character menu we would have icons for 'build buildings', 'build electronics', etc... which I think would fit in with the clothes option. (why was it separate anyway?)

Then when you click on one of those icons your taken straight to the that menu, which could also be further split, if possible, say for weapons and tools it could be by the main resource needed, e.g. When you click on 'Build Weapons' it would be split by 'Bone weapons, Bronze weapons, etc... the 'semi finished products' could be split by what final type of object they are for, e.g. Weapons, Vehicles, etc...

Not to argue the point, more making an observation.
I think the clothing option was made into a seperate "button/icon" is that clothes are not directly useful in the game.
Yes, it is true clothes help you recognize others, but from a game-mechanical view, they are purely there for RP reasons (and to suck up available resources! ) so perhaps that is why they get their own catagory.

Electronics, buildings, etc are all used in-game for something other than appearence, so are lumped together. I don't mind the grouping as there is not THAT much to build, and if you have an idea of what you want to do, it's not hard to find the right link to click and make that tool/object from it's own catagory within the "Manufacturing" area.

That said, I'd LOVE to have the little green arrow icon when trying to manufacture clothes, like exists when creating a manufacturing project that needs materials. As a newbie it took me a good week to figure out how to start a project to sew a fur cloak. The "continue" link for clothes is left-aligned text rather than a centered button/icon like I expected.

Well, I can check this.

If you like icons and they are really helpful - perhaps other ProD members approve such improvements :)

This has a drawback.
The manufacture button is present in all main pages. Creating more buttons would make all main pages a little heavier just to avoid passing by one page a couple of times a day maximum.

And personally, I don't want more buttons messing the player menu. I prefer a written list of the categories in a separate page.
Carpe Diem
