Do we have to kill?

Postby Gyrus » Tue May 10, 2005 6:06 am

A simple question and a suggestion. But if you think it is agianst the CR please lock it.

We are 4 friends im a place where killing people is against our way. But there is a thief inside. And he stole our items laying on the ground. So is there a way of disarming him without killing him  Can we tie him or neutralize him without killing him.

 My suggestion is to "STUN" a person.

Note: he is locked inside it is four to one and we do not want to kill him.

Hope i did not break the rule

There's no way to do this as of yet, although the idea has been suggested several times. Some people wanted to introduce shackles or "tying" projects in order to incapacitate a person. But programming hasn't been able to implement this yet.

I still advocate the use of 'bludgeoning' weapons such as billy clubs that do tiredness instead of damage. At 100% tiredness the person is knocked out. Maybe dropping their possessions?

Make a use for beds again. And maybe not as hard to implement.

I am not sure if people want someone like me to be in control of situations like this. bahahahahahaha!

Some thieves just pick the wrong places at the wrong times.

Oh and I think something to stunning them or holding them down would be great. Something that I was thinking of is (I have not tried this yet.) But getting people to drag him/her while others come in and so on. Or can he still escape?

It's been suggested before, but I agree that the ability to knock someone unconscious and have access to their inventory would be great.

Unfortunately in Cantr there's no way to take someone's stuff or even see what they're holding without killing them. Not exactly realistic, and a pain in the neck for for peaceful societies, but that's the present state of things...

If you don't mind waiting awhile for your items I suppose you could just leave the thief locked up. He'll either get bored in there and surrender the items or else he'll fall asleep and starve. Either way you won't have to directly kill him.

Yeah, good luck with that. My most pacifistic character will run out of tears before conversation with a thief will work.

Although we did manage to talk Garry Jovis into changing his ways. So never mind. Best of luck to you with the reasoning.

The worst problem with a situation like this is that when a character gets arrested the player often abandons them. All the reasoning in the world won't matter if they're not even reading it.

Is that surprising? Spending 2 Cantr years locked in a room full of dead bodies is not very condusive to roleplay.

It's very conducive to insanity though...

Yes, but being locked up and instantaneously losing all will to live and communicate with your captors? Most of the "thieves" I've seen are of the spawn-and-run type, so if things go sour with that one char there's nothing to lose and I think they just abandon it. Actually, the player would probably prefer if you killed them and imprisoning them instead is probably the worst punishment possible.

I don't know.

I've had a character locked up in DHN for a couple of years now. I still check him every day, in hopes they release him. I never get to say anything to the guy that comes in and randomly checks up on me though. He just kinda pops in and out real quick.

Note to self : Never ever steal clothes from a dead girl again in DHN >.>;;

Yeah usually when someone is locked up, the captors won't just sit around waiting for replies because they have better things to do and the lock will take care of protection. And there's always the chance that the prisoner will get lucky and strike through the captor's shield. Many places don't have healing foods. So no one wants to take a risk with dangerous criminals. So the only way of communication is by knocking and writing notes. Hopefully your character can write or you're screwed. I personally would accept writing rp on a note if an illiterate character is in question but probably most people see that as unnatural since notes are somewhat solid objects even if they are (to my knowledge) weightless.

Yeah, they may be weightless, but for some reason they are undragable to my character. But I guess it doesn't help that they beat him within an inch of his life.

Not all thieving chars are players trying to get their chars killed off. Unfortunately they all seem to get tarred with the same brush.

I believe a way of 'shackling' chars and yet still allowing them to roleplay would be a good addition to the game.
