Another language area

Postby InsaneIrony » Wed Mar 02, 2005 5:17 am

I know areas with new languages have been suggested before, like latin. I don't know where those threads went, but I was wondering what it would take for an area to be made with a different language like Tagalog (Filipino).

if you could show that enough people would be interested in playing in that language, i'm sure the staff would be happy to add it,
but more importantly, they need people to translate the game into that language, which means you either need to be or know people who are fairly fluent and willing to put some time in.

Current requirements are:
- at least 4 players willing to have characters in that area
- at least 1 player willing to do the translations
- at least 1 player willing to advertise for new members who speak that language (e. g. going on Tagalog-language forums and making Cantr known there)

The translator and the marketing person could be part of the 4 players. These requirements are made in order to make sure that there is enough interest in an area, that the interface will not remain in English (if something is not translated, it appear in English) and that there will eventually be enough people playing it.

Additionally, Jos would like to see a significant amount of the translations to be completed before the first characters are allowed to spawn in the area (hence there is no Latin or Arabic area yet but translations have begun).

Has there been any interest in starting a Chinese area? I'm starting to pick up some Mandarin from my labmates. I think it would be fun to try and play in it eventually...no rush though. I have a long, loooong way to go before being conversational.

I'm waiting for one of my characters to die so that I can start a character in the spanish region. 5 years of spanish should have made me fairly fluent by now. This should be the ultimate test.

Oh, I have a friend who speaks tagalog... or he's learning it, he's Filipino... so yeah. He doesn't know about Cantr though....
Just because you're older, smarter, stronger, more talented... doesn't mean you're BETTER.
