This is my suggestion for a research thing before new items are added.
Each character has the basic knowledge of what they can make like now, but the improved versions of the tools do the same things better, cheaper or faster. These will require scientific instruments and a work bench/stone table.
Not all instruments would be needed, it depends on the tool inquestion.
Mono-Lense Microscope
Materials -50g Iron
-10g Glass Beads
1days construction
Wooden Clamp
Materials - 150g wood
0.75 days construction
Steel Rule
Materials - 25g steel
1 days construction
Heat resistant glass.
materials- same as glass
takes 1 day longer.
Glass beaker
materials- 50g HR Glass
0.25 days
Measuring Cylinder
Materials - 50g HR Glass
0.25 days
Project - Improving Axe
Tools needed- Steal Rule, wooden clamp.
Materials needed - Axe
- 5g Steel
-50g Wood
Product - Prototype Improved Axe.
The prototype would mean that the person can start imroved projects in an improved tool section.
Builing Improved Axe
Materials needed - same as axe.
Collection Rate - No random decrease.
The other suggestion is a trundle wheel to allow characters to measure land distances and a theodolydide to set new roads up once free roaming is possible.
Trundle Wheel
Materials Needed- 25g Rubber
- 15g Iron
-450g wood
A primitive Roman version could also be built.
Primitive Trundle wheel
Materials Needed- 3000g wood
- 500g Hide
Values can be changed if they are too low.
The scientific equipment can be used with new resources like sulphur, herbs, saltpeter, dynamos (eventually) to make new chemicals for industries. Eg using sulphuric acid (made from the sulphur) to construct simple power cells.
