Cantr Very slow

Postby rklenseth » Tue Nov 02, 2004 4:32 pm

Is it me or is Cantr extremely slow today? I have broadband connection and any computer I go on Cantr takes forever to load to the next page. It has been awhile since it has been this slow.

I'm finding that as well, and I have a broadband connection too. It is noticeably slower

Broadband here too, and it took so long for this page to post a reply to load that my screen saver kicked on, it's set for 5 mins.

I'm not finding it that bad, but it is pretty slow. I think it started last night...maybe after midnight EST (and the new day in cantr...)

It is slow, slow, slow!
It has been slowing down steadily in the past few days and now is barely playable again. So far today (my day off) I have burned at least 60 of my minutes just waiting for the pages to load. I was looking forward to being active today, since I have been working lots of overtime lately. Turn changes seem to take 2 hours and 59 minutes.

The game has had its share of problems recently, and it is becoming a job to play. I don't need another job. It has started to become a source of frustration, and I surely don't need another one of those. I wonder how much of a part this feeling has played in the many players thinking about leaving. I am considering giving it up because what little time I can play the game can't be spent staring at the monitor, or trying to RP through game errors.

With all of the new players who don't understand the game when it works well, these ongoing unusualities take a lot of time to explain to them when your characters are in a high positions of populated areas.

Yeah, the game is very slow today. :( I have DSL.

Apache:

This is a free game dude. It will have it share of problems, but it's nothing to be so impatient about. Just think of it this way, your getting your moneys worth. :) I do agree it is fustration. You should do what I do. Take a deep breath. Your chars. will be alright so just leave the game for a few hours. Most of the time when I return the game is back to normal. If it isn't I just don't play for the rest of the day or just play while it's slow and let all my minutes run out. I mean, I know it's hard to do exspecially in my case when people need your char. to be awake sometimes, but everyone needs to understand this game is a SLOW PACED game and can be slower at times. If you quit cause of one little problem you will regret it and when you come back (they always come back) you will have to start all over again.

Just something to think about,

And you might like the reason for the slowdown, too. Jos is apparently working on optimising the code, to make it FASTER and more efficient.

Not that he gets paid for it, or anything.

That sounds great!

I don't think anyone here posted simply to complain...more like to let you know that the game is slow, in case something would be wrong.

lol I love ya to death sparkle.......alright maybe not death

It may be free, but I have coughed up and donated and intend to so again. And I'm not talking a cursory $2 either. If everyone in the game donated what I did, Jos could buy a server. I appreciate the fact that playing a free game, I should just be happy it's there, but it isn't exactly free to me. I think anyone who can, should donate something.

Yeah, it was slow for me too. Not that I'm complaining mind you, but it's nice to have an occasional thread where we all agree about something.

It is insanely slow to load today. Did you let some of the gerbils off the wheel to vote or something?

I just used 50 mins to check... 4 chars. Usually that takes like 5-8 mins, depending on if I post anything or just look at the screen.

 Love you to Apache....*giggles* I love all my Cantr buddies. Some more than others, but still. Dude just slipped into my vocab. I'm trying to run it over with my Lincoln....

N-E ways. I can understand that. When you contibute to something you expect the best from it sometimes. What I do when I think of it that way is think to myself "Me quiting are getting mad won't make the game get fixed quicker. So just keep being supportive and understand that they are doing the best they can to fix the problem". Most of the time when this happens it makes me want to join the staff, but I know I can't do that. I don't have enough time on my hands. I could if I got rid of about half my chars. but which ones do I get rid of.....Arrrrgggghhh! I just can't do it......

:)
