Make uneditable notes editable for author

Postby watermelonnose » Tue Aug 19, 2003 2:00 am

Could there be a third choice for note editing.
1 Edit able
2. Non-edit able
3. Edit able only by the original author. The players id number instead of the characters name would code who wrote the note so a forgery wouldn't be possible. The characters name would show on the note.

Edited for thread title. -rklenseth

How could this be possible? If I find a note in real live, I'm able to edit it, so is it possible in Cantr. And I believe Cantr should be in some way like real live. (Or is it life... my english is very bad... sorry :p.)

It is "life" XBL, but no matter.

I disagree. If you place an add in a newspaper, if you post a message on this board, in many circumstances in RL the author is the only one able to edit something. In Cantr, many notes placed on the ground are in fact advertisements, or similar pieces of information, and I think should be able to be edited by author only.

You can always edit a note IRL but most commonly you can just add to it not take away or reformat without it being obvious.

In other words ink is more previlant than pencil.

And anyway, who says cantr always has to be like real life? After all, irl I sleep, in Cantr I can work on projects all night long!

4th option

A 4th option could be a non copying note? So that you could use notes sort of like ID

Maybe make a tools like a Pen that allows you to make uneditable notes. This could in theory be broken if white-out were invented or green-out since the backgrounds seem to be green.

Um, copy and paste a new note with the same content...

This also kind of makes "uneditable" notes vulnerable. Pick one up, copy+paste, edit copy, drop. Detectable, but not easy to notice in towns where picking up notes is allowed. :?

I was going to say the same thing. The copy and paste thing kind of nullifies that effect. For some reason people like picking Ambrose Corla's Map and doing that while changing the content. I think notes should be able to be changed. It will add more intrigue as to whether or not the notes are true or false. And make Cantr more interesting.

Anyways, I really like this original idea so I'm bringing it back to the top.
