I don't know if its me or just a coincidence of my characters. Almost all my characters are approaching the 40 year old mark. All but a couple are really questioning their life goals and planning on making major changes. A couple may die and most of the rest are in the process of packing up and moving to make a new start somewhere else abandoning the goals they had when they spawned mainly getting away from society and people in general. I blame Survivorman mostly, if you've ever seen the reality show. It's what drew me here the first time I played years ago, its what called me back to the game last year and watching it constantly resparks my interest in the game.
I dont guess I have a point to make or anything. Just some random commentary on my game play at the moment.

It's not a bad idea, if you ask me. The thing about being a hermit, or being in a remote place with just a few people who like to cooperate and work together... it's relaxing, it's drama-free, and it makes the Cantr experience less stressful. Remember that Cantr is a game, and if something's not fun... change it up!

I hit a similar patch in my fourties and a few had to just get out, run away, or die.
But if everyone did this, long running establishments and trading hubs and some of the things that make the islands great, would cease to exist. (Hats off to you all, you know who you are!)
I also find the fourties are the time when your chars become fairly established, and if you've got a lot of slots filled.. keeping them all going is often too much like hard work (especially deep/complex chars).
Mid-life Cantr crises are fun, long may they continue.
