Furniture Uses

Postby Anthony Roberts » Sun Apr 04, 2004 11:13 pm

Furniture has no use, at all, in the game. It's just a decorative item, and what not. Nothing. Nadda.

It needs something. So, I was thinking.

Bed - You should be able to "use" a bed, as if it were an item, to "Rest". Resting will grant you 1 extra percent of health every turn. But, in order to use it, they need to eat 1/8th the amount of food they would a day. Ie: If you have potatoes currently as your edable food, then you'll eat 12 (or 13, whichever 12.5 would be rounded to) and 1 percent is healed. This would prevent people thinking "Oh hey, I have no food, I'll lose 2 percent a day, but GAIN 8! What a deal!" or something. So, you'd really eat 1.8 days worth of food for every 1 day using the bed.

Armoire - Store clothing items within this item. You can't store clothing in a container, so, store them in this "container"

Desk - Could have the same uses as a Kitchen Table, as if it were a machine. This would just require the RD to edit it, simple.

Cabin-Trunk - This should store items (Not resources, but actual items). THis would also be good to have, as it will be the foundation for the 'length, width, height' system. You could put a needle in the trunk, but maybe not a saw. You know? Too big to fit.

Chair / Rocking Chair - With one of these in the room, production of TOOLS could be increased 25% or so (You're comfortable sitting, rather than standing to do whatever. Or if you roleplayed that you were sitting... on the floor...)

Any of these feasable and possible? What about other Furniture items?

I know the last thing we need is to make furniture even more expensive...but shouldn't the bed need cotton cloth instead of raw cotton?

I would like to see some more primitive versions of furniture.
Like straw beds etc.

"but shouldn't the bed need cotton cloth instead of raw cotton?"

My guess the raw cotton was intended to be used like a padding material.

i am all for interactive furniture.
beds should help heal strength at a faster rate.
there should be cabinets and chests you can place and lock things in.
all it would do is add realism and be more effective at the development of societies.

OMFG How I would just love to have the Cantr Re-enactment of Scarface, takes out a bunch of crossbows and sabres from the desk, runs up to a bunch of DoUrden gangsters and "say hello to my little friend."

The number of homeless wanderers is very high in Cantr because we do not require sleep or a place to rest. Its perfectly normal to wander about the world eating carrots and moving from town to town never stopping.

To require having a bed now and again would open up a new market for hotels and beds for rent. It would promote building houses and people settling down. Criminals on the run would truely be on the run, not just another person moving from town to town.

Maybe this would be too much to expect new spawns to find food and a roof right away, but its an interesting idea that has its pros and cons

I agree.
I have had several characters who have been interested in starting inns and restaurants, but there is just no market for that at the moment.

I suggested that some sort of energy bar should be implemented, and that the energy would run out if people didn't sleep properly etc.
I don't think these things should effect your health at first hand...but if the energy bar reaches zero your health should start to drop.

Energy/Stamina bar, I think that's cool. That would give another use for speeds while walking. Go slower to keep your stamina level or to increase, or go fast to waste more stamina to get to places quickly.

Furniture does need a use, though, that's why this post is here :D

*Puts hands on hips* I'm so tempted to delete posts that have nothing to do with the topic at hand. Especially Trages... 300+ posts in two weeks. Something is up >.>
