Resting while Traveling aka Camping

Postby Yo_Yo » Tue Aug 05, 2003 4:36 am

I couldn't get to sleep last night, so I decided to try and make myself tired via thinking. I though about the whole discussion about sleeping in the true sense (not just blaming not being on). But there was one thing that I was wondering about. Traveling. We all know it takes a day usually to get somewhere (at least) and that day spans sunrise and sunset, rinse and repeat. If we were to have sleeping be an issue, then it would be a smart idea to be able to camp. Maybe even have it as an option while being in the forest?

Please tell me what you think.

And tents!

Who knows? Tents could also become a cheaper form a building...and you can pick up and go. It could encourage more migrants and travelling.

but not as secure as buildings. Perhaps if we require sleep, we require shelter. Tents would povide shelter, but not security. You couldn't leave something in a tent and expect it to be safe from theft.

It would be nice if we had things to support a nomadic or at least semi-nomadic society.

portable oven -
campfire -
slower
uses more wood/coal
less functions {no bread/popcorn without a pan}

portable building
tent -
no locks
smaller than a cottage
no extra rooms
no building period

Any really what else does a nomad need but a locable mount, bike, or car.

When I said "building" I meant a structure that one can go inside. Really, something you roll up and cart around won't be very secure at all.

It might be useful, however, if mosquito-born deseases ever go into effect...

well, a camper van would be more like a portable building, not a tent. They would work like trailers.

What about trailer homes? lol, forget note theft, go one stage further and steal the town hall on the back of a bicycle driven trailer!!

Danger!

Postby Alcatraz » Sat Aug 09, 2003 3:48 am

It seems that we're always reducing the size of animal packs. I understand when there is hundreds, but maybe they should be left a bit more dangerous than we currently do. That would certainly encourage nomadic lifestyles, though I don't know if this is needed, and would make buildings more to the idea Jos had in mind.

Next we'll be adding bug spray and shampoo!

I love the idea of a portable cooking stone (if they aren't portable now), fire, and a tent. I have a few characters that have a nomadic lifestyle, but it gets boring after awhile. I would love to invite passersby to come sit by my campfire and share my repasse. Maybe sing some campfire songs too. How about introducing musical instruments, so I can play a guitar by the campfire.

Camping sounds so much fun, especially for the nomad you could say "I've had enough! Screw you all I'm going camping" and off you go with a skip in your step and a small home on your back.

Oh and you could have partisans living all over the place being bandits or waging war but because of there role unable to have permanent buildings or remain in an area for to long.
