Machines start accidental Fires

Postby berserk9779 » Tue Mar 09, 2004 1:57 am

If you build a smelting furnace, a klin or an oven in a wooden building, don't you have at least the chance that the place goes up in fire?
The chances would be higher for smelting furnace, then primitive smelting furnace, klin, and oven being the safest.
The chances could also be incresed by the amount of flamables in the building (a stone building with 30000g of coal inside should burn to ashes once in a while too)

And what about selfcombustion?(or autocombustion)

760-8: While you are working under the hot sun your 2000g of oil and 3547g of coal selfcombust. Everything in your inventory is destroyed. You are left with 5% energy

Not fun. Well from a char point of view, I hate it. From a player point of view, well *villainous grin* but I think it's a bit too advanced for our day and age of Cantr. Brings back the idea of destroying buildings.

Well, pretty much the point of a smelting furnace is to keep the flames well contained. Keeps it hit inside and, um..slightly less hot outside. This isn't like one of those giant Bessemer converters you might see, it's more like a medieval furnace you might see at a smithy or metallurgist's. Or an alchemist's :-D And many of those types of buildings were of a mostly wooden construction, but the furnace was built well enough to provide protection. Of course, accidents do happen...

At least the wood would smolder and give you some warning.

The stone. It quietly absorbs the heat which expands the walls...

...not enough to bring down the stone roff...

...just enough to break down the stone hinge in the stone door...

...cangrats your own personal tomb.

It is not the smelting furnace in itself, but what comes out of it: molten metal. get just a drop of it on your nice cottage parquette and..... WHAMMM.
