Allowing players to list action

Postby amika-babilfrenzo » Thu Jun 11, 2009 12:53 am

It was brought up in the 'swimming' thread, but I figured it deserved its own thread: What about allowing players to list their status, like 'swimming', or 'having sex'?

As mentioned, it would help with role-playing situations not explicitly in the game, so that another player who comes along and is not aware of the situation being role-played can prevent themselves from talking to a person who is theoretically too far away in the river to be heard.

It also helps with the issue of separate time zones, because it serves as kind of an away indicator if the person is 'sleeping'.

I guarantee this has been mentioned before, but with the search function broken...

Having a status like this would essentially provide the same thing as having a custom appearance description, and I suspect that many, many people (including myself) would use it that way. As such, all of the arguments for and against a custom description box would apply here.

Well, what if the descriptions were limited to 5-10 characters, or a drop down list to prevent the kind of abuse you're talking about?

(I didn't realize the search function was broken, sorry)

Edit: And a drop down list would have the added bonus of solving the problem of languages.

The drop down list has been mentioned before also. In a thread somewhere that had to do with international emotes.
